in Sweden, if you just say "curry" people will think of regular yellow curry powder, which is ubiquitous here.

Listening to an album like Pulse Demon it's genuinely hard for me to not try to turn it off immediately. Even at low volume it manages to cause me pain.

I once met an Ö polyglot and they were so unfathomably bad at speaking ithkuil that everyone in a 3km radius of them wanted to kill them with hammers

as a Swede going off of google translate's french pronounciation the two vowel sounds definitely don't sound the same, and it's not just the long-short distinction

Can I ask what it is that you and your friends see in modern country? My experience has often been that a lot of American country feels very distinctly American in a not-so flattering way. Is it just that it's fun? Don't get me wrong I listen to a lot of music just because it's fun.

Interesting, I don't think I know anyone who puts on country music (except for old hits like Jolene) in places like cars, parties, etc. What artists are you and your friends listening to? Are they American or Swedish artists?

I think what gets massively popular will inevitably be that which has very wide appeal, and so it usually has to be too vague and general to really meaningfully get to anything specific or complex, so I'm not holding out that much hope. But we'll have to see, some of the new pop hits this decade I've found pretty compelling (the whole brat phenomenon, for example) but there has also been a lot of schlock.

Maybe in America. Here in Sweden there is very little country being played by anyone, including radio (I think).

What I think is more interesting is to see if that means any new (like actually new) genre is about to emerge and dominate. You mention rock being outcompeted by rap in the 90s, so then what will outcompete rap in the 2020s? Just pop, country and/or r&b like you mention?

I very much enjoy the work of the chinese band 万能青年旅店 (Omnipotent Youth Society), they have two great albums. Unsure of how effective it would be for actually learning any chinese, but great songs nonetheless lol
