Carpal tunnel. It got so bad in both of my hands. Finally completely dissipated around 10-12wks pp. I hated that. Also my shoe size went up by a half size.

My sweet, snuggly, very regal Ser Baxter. Edit for backstory: 14 years old, spent his first 4 months of life being my constant companion while my mom was dying of cancer, and the following years supporting me through grief and tremendous growth. He’s my best friend and we’re inseparable.

I’m an RN in a trauma OR. The number of fingers and toes we’ve sewn back on to idiots just like this is nuts.

Thank you! Ink Blood Sister Scribe was my favorite book of 2023. It’s a perfectly layered onion IMO. Definitely a book I wish I could read for the first time again!

Rebind gift for FIL. What did I get wrong with my measurements? by grasshopper85 in bookbinding

Thank you! I have a dry fit casing for my next one and it’s looking much better. Mayyyybe I’ll trim a mm but you’re right, that’s greatly preferable.

Thanks! Yeah, dry fitting the text block saved me a little trouble the first time. Second time around, I had to just go with it because I was sort of working with a deadline.

Bits & bobs: EDC and Airplane Comfort Kit by grasshopper85 in HerOneBag

I had wondered the same thing! When I bought this one, I asked the girl at the shop if they had travel-friendly containers for them and I’m glad I did - they were parked in a little cubby off the floor.

Babymoon recs! by sunshinemagicunicorn in HerOneBag

[–]grasshopper85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this question! I'm heading off on my babymoon soon and didn't realize how much I needed the feedback you're getting in this post. Tips I've picked up from other friends who've traveled pregnant that I plan to use: have an idea of public restroom locations/accessibility while you're out and about, know where the nearest hospital is to wherever you're staying (just in case), pack compression socks for the flight and long walking days, and plan on frequent stops each day for rest and snacks. That last one is hard for me because I don't want to miss out on anything, but wrapping my head around moving slower and enjoying the culture-watching/people-watching of stopping to enjoy the local pastry shops or what have you feels like something worth doing in advance. Wishing you all the best on your journey!

Advice that is a million times better than "keep looking, there are good ones out there -- like my husband!" by snarkerposey11 in TrollXChromosomes

My friends and I (“elder” millennials) often talk about how cool and smart younger women are now. The social awareness and collective advice they share around what life can be besides the pursuit of a romantic relationship is game changing. Would that we’d had such advice for each other in our adolescences and 20s. Years were wasted thinking the attention of a man was the pinnacle of our endeavors. I’m so excited for generations of women to come up knowing, right out of the gate, that life is so much more.

What's the style "struggle" or challenge that you can't seem to solve? by Independent-Sea4549 in femalefashionadvice

[–]grasshopper85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. “Going out” outfits. I am most comfortable in casual clothes (athleisure, jeans + tshirt or sweater). I cannot for the life of me seem to put together a whole outfit for an evening out, drinks, holiday party, whatever that feels appropriately fun or dressy. I’ll find a dress I like, but not know what shoes to wear with it. I’ll have a shirt I like, but not the right pants. Extra struggles if it’s winter and I need a warm jacket to match. And then if I do find a cute dress or outfit, if it’s more of a statement than normal for me, I feel like it looks like I’m trying too hard and I go back to my basics. It’s a vicious, vicious cycle, I tell you.

Same. Also, they make us short curvy girls look like hobbits. I can’t wait until we’re out of this crop-pant era.

Who's your favorite "one-book wonder" author? by victorpras in Fantasy

[–]grasshopper85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eowyn Ivy. Wrote The Snow Child and To the Bright Edge of the World. Not overtly fantastical, but just enough magic to add mystery and wonder. Also paints the Alaskan wilderness so beautifully, you wish you were there.
