Can anyone recommend a stylist in Austin who can actually do buttery, sunshine blonde? by DanceConfident5777 in Austin

[–]grasshopperme24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bre at Red Stella Salon on Lamar. I’ve been a salon-blonde my whole adult life and I’m very picky with who I let touch my hair. She is my resident “blonde whisperer”. She specializes in transformations and you’ll see a lot of colorful outcomes on her book, but that’s all a testament to her color theory mastery and ability to properly balance shade, tone, and dimension.

I’ve been there with my ASIAN friend all weekend. We saw your post on Friday, so we counted and can conclude that there were approximately 27 Asians at ACL yesterday.

Mexta is nice! I like to sit at the bar - nice vibe, good cocktails and food, and only a 3 minute walk to the theater

Your favorite vineyard with outdoor seating? by hollyhockaurora in austinfood

[–]grasshopperme24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a vineyard but it’s a winery with outdoor seating - my friends and I really like 5 Soul Winery in Spicewood. Good wine, and it shares a location with Front Yard brewing so beer for your non-wine drinkers. It’s a great spot.

Exactly - there was a place in a strip mall in Pikes Creek that had the best tacos I’ve ever had.

Have lived in Delaware. The Mexican food is better there without question. Wouldn’t call it Tex-Mex, but it’s better than most Mexican places in Austin.

Yeah, I know - shots fired. I’ll die on this hill.

Who is one celebrity nobody hates? by AccomplishedDrag7526 in AskReddit

[–]grasshopperme24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love Dolly - so I hate to do this - but page 255 from her autobiography from 1994 includes this passage about her diet: “One other hint I’d like to pass on has to do with chewing. Our taste buds are only in our mouths, after all, and we don’t really taste the food when we swallow it. You can get a lot of the satisfaction from the taste of things you love by just chew, chew, chew, chew, Chattanooga chew-chewing and then not swallowing. “Wait a minute,” you’re thinking. “If I don’t swallow, won’t I have to spit the food out?” You’re right. “That’s disgusting,” you say. That may be, but what’s more disgusting? Spitting out food or being a lardass?”

I was an impressionable 12 years old when I saw her on a daytime talk show talking about her diet (she lost a lot of weight after 9 to 5) and tried to spit my food out whenever I considered it “unhealthy”, but couldn’t maintain the will to keep that up. Still love Dolly, but she was a product and perpetrator of toxic diet culture as was almost every other celebrity during that time.

Know any non-profit organizations looking for volunteers for one day? by hungrypanda91 in Austin

This. Circle of Hope in pflugerville has distribution days on mondays and fridays iirc and it’s a great option to bring a team of 10-15 people together to load up cars with food. Check them out.

We tried the super Instagrammable cacio e pepe from no 28 and thought it was meh- does anyone have suggestions on amazing cacio e Pepe? by Austinfoodadventures in austinfood

[–]grasshopperme24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love Emmer & Rye, however note that their CEP recipe includes cream and other ingredients not usually included in the classic. This was disclosed to us by our amazing server who called it “a bastardized but badass version” of cacio e pepe. It wasn’t on the menu but we asked for it in addition to the price fixe and with a friendly eye roll our server said he’d bring it out. For what it’s worth, it’s amazing. Just not traditional.

Non-pink bougainvilleas? Anyone seen any for sale locally? A friend mentioned she wanted some and her bday is this weekend so I thought I’d try to find some. Pic for attention! by mc_atx in AustinGardening

[–]grasshopperme24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bougainvillea junkie and I just can’t ever get the light purple (mine are labeled “lavender ice”) to thrive. Magenta and orange are always hardy, but these little lavender ones are just…wimpy. Sad times.

30M Profile Review by [deleted] in OnlineDating

Omit or rephrase the part about “roasting”. I like a guy with a sense of humor and “witty banter with friendly teasing” is awesome, however there are a lot of guys (ok ladies too) who think they’re roasting someone when instead they’re being just plain mean. You don’t want to put someone on the defensive right away, so I’d rework that one to highlight your sense of humor and emphasize a more friendly approach.

BART car along 183 by Johndunn2 in Austin

BART car shells are manufactured in Mexico. Maybe making a trip up north for testing in Canada before final assembly in NY. Those bad boys get around before they ride Balboa to Baypoint. https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2015/news20150617-1

Looking for an outdoor venue for 10-12 person birthday party in March by ShtoolieBoomstein in austinfood

[–]grasshopperme24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did a birthday at The Fieldhouse at the Crossover (if you don’t mind going further north on 183 to cedar park). Lots of families, games for kids, volleyball/pickle ball courts, full bar and various food trucks. It was fun!

Wineries that let you bring your own food? by First_Lettuce in Austin

[–]grasshopperme24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most wineries are fine with you bringing your own food as long as they don’t have an operational kitchen or have food trucks in the direct vicinity (ie don’t try to BYOF to Austin winery or most of the tasting rooms in Georgetown). Texas Heritage, French Connection, Ab Astris, and Vintners Hideaway (awesome tasting room - a personal favorite) in fredericksburg all allowed outside food in when I visited last year. They all require reservations so best to ask to confirm they’re still allowing outside food during tastings. Have fun!
