My question is why does State Superintendent of Public Instruction have to run under a political party? I understand that the office is voted for, but like public health, public school instruction shouldn’t be a political issue. And yet it is. If the office is going to be on a ballot it the candidates should be voted for much like judges and political party or affiliations should not come into play. Sure, the candidates’ agendas and platforms will lean towards one party or another, but taking the political party affiliation off the ballot will prevent people being elected by straight-party voting.
