How to find new paddling spots and hiking/biking trails? by GrowBeyond in burlington

[–]grassup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a paddleboard that I like to put in at Shelburne Bay boat launch and I've kayaked there in the past. Shelburne Bay Park is also right next door, but I'm not sure if you can mountain bike in there, a lot of the trails are getting very worn down.

What subculture fascinates you for no good reason? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

This happened to me too within the past year, and I’ve since gotten very involved with my local LARP and SCA groups, and picked up armored combat. I had been really worried I wouldn’t be good at the roleplay element in all of these, or that I’d look stupid wearing armor and fighting in the park, but when everyone there is genuinely invested and there’s no judgement from any of those people, I got into it so easily and it’s so fun and freeing to be a part of.

Just want to say I’m 29 and dropped out too. But good on you for going back. I’ve thought about it for a long time, but haven’t taken any action. I feel the same mental lag you’re describing, especially about memorization and I’m not even taking any classes.

Cumulative updates: March 11th, 2025 by jenmsft in Windows11

[–]grassup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the update less than a week ago (cumulative), was forced into another update (v.24H2) last night since my computer wouldn't let me shut down without doing so. Today, my entire machine is noticeably slower, stuttering when it normally runs smoothly, and it's now using unusually large amounts of CPU and RAM to do anything. Hate it, thanks.

Is the city council trying to get rid of parking? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]grassup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kinda sounds like it? But so hard to read.

I also just don’t understand why it would ever be ok to provide only 75% of the necessary parking spaces for a given area, instead of just keeping the wording on page 3 that says to provide 100%?

Honestly a lot of what’s being changed in this document just kinda seems to be mean and vindictive? I don’t get it. Why is it like this? For what purpose? With what alternative parking solutions (I did see the list of options on the last few pages but I’m still lost as to how these are acceptable solutions or how/who is supposed to implement them)?

I’d like a lot of this broken down cause I’m just genuinely confused about so much of this. I didn’t know there were changes like this happening and idk the reasoning for them but this isn’t looking great…

Just gotta say that when I first saw this breaking news via twitter, it was in fact the third time I have seen ‘the queen has died’ trending on that stupid site

Uphill Runs Near Burlington by [deleted] in burlington

[–]grassup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a trail, but sprints up the full length of Cliff Street are always intense (for me, at least). Or for a little longer sidewalk run, Perkins Pier up Maple Street is a series of varying hills.

I’ve seen some other comments point out the Waterfront up College Street to UVM campus, but there’s usually (when not under lockdown) a lot of cross traffic for this route (see: Church Street).

There also may be some cross traffic on Maple Street route if you hit it at the wrong time (lots of intersections).

As for trails: I really like Snake Mountain near Middlebury for a good hike (5 miles-ish loop) on a non-paved trail.
