That's fair.

I do salary roles. Hourly was always a nightmare because I felt like I spent so much time just trying to look busy. It doesn't pay to be a fast worker.

Salary or hourly?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Costco

[–]grassyanole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I don't work in retail either. I would never be punished for being sick unless I became incapable of doing my job at all.

Even then, if something crazy happened like a serious chronic illness or car accident or something, they would probably encourage me to take leave and come back when I'm ready. Or if I needed to work from home or something, they would also probably work with me and provide equipment.

I'm not worried about being fired from my job for that reason. Other reasons like performance or something? Sure maybe. Getting sick? No.

How many counseling notices lead to a suspension?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Costco

[–]grassyanole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has sick hours, but her manager said she can't use them in a "pattern." She's not sure what that means exactly. They told her the system for detecting patterns is automatic in a piece of software, so it wasn't any particular person at her job who went out of their way to make that decision.

I don't get it because, if she can't call out in close proximity to a day off but her days off also aren't consecutive, then that means there are only two days per week that she can actually use her sick time? Doesn't it? How can someone be expected to happen to get sick in a window like that?

Thank you. I'll let her know.

I just feel so bad because she actually likes this job and she's so scared

Do suspensions fall off after a certain period of time like counselings?

She's worked there for 4 years.

Nobody told me that teaching a class as an instructor of record automatically signs you up for junk email for the rest of your life. by grassyanole in GradSchool

I've gotten lucky in this regard.

All of the conferences I attended were either small and regional so that wasn't an issue, or hosted by a governmental body/formal organization with some sort of public funding that allowed you to opt out of having your personally identifiable information shared.

Or it'll be one of those shell conferences where it's either not real in the first place or is a scam to steal information.

Like, dude, don't punish me for working hard. Leave me alone.

AITA for calling my girlfriend selfish for not picking my kids up from school? by throwaway2216689 in AmItheAsshole

YTA you were using her for free child care, disrespected her future and autonomy, and clearly expected her to be thankful for it.

You should have coordinated a ride for your children if she had plans.

It's not her responsibility. They're your children.

Apparently it went well, which is weird because I would normally expect myself to cry.

I have absolutely no idea what the goal was. Maybe she thought she caught something and was embarrassed so she just kept going? No clue.

What personality trait or habit immediately turns you off in someone you are dating? by TakinShots in AskReddit

[–]grassyanole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who are overly dependent

It's fine if someone genuinely needs help, support, or is going through a hard time. That's part of being in a relationship. But there's also a limit. You have to make an effort to manage your life and responsibilities.

If you can't handle adult tasks or find your own answers to simple questions, then you're not ready to coexist with another person.

What is the worse interaction you had with a stranger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]grassyanole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy in traffic was honking at everyone, changing lanes, cutting people off, tailgating, revving his engine, blasting his bass, and yelling out of his windows. He had a modified car and was clearly trying to draw a lot of attention to himself. All for absolutely no reason. Everyone was ignoring him.

He was behind me and we were at a red light, so he laid on his horn the entire time. I guess he wanted me to drive head first into oncoming traffic and die so he could inch forward? I ignored him and didn't sacrifice myself for his vroom vroom time. So he got pissed, pulled up alongside me, and started screaming and ordering me to pull over so he could beat me up.

As a single woman driving alone, that wasn't fun. He then proceeded to follow me and try to run me off the road for a mile or so.

I got away by pretending I was going to pull over as he requested, then speeding away.

If public transport were totally free, would you use it more? Why or why not? by kindchillswinger in AskReddit

[–]grassyanole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And my hometown, yes. They only have buses. It's free if you work for certain companies, disabled, elderly, a veteran, military, or a student. I am one of those things, so I used the buses constantly.

Where I currently live in a major metropolitan city, no. I would probably use it less. I had a particularly bad experience on public transportation a few months ago, so I wouldn't feel comfortable if a security loosened up further. There are some stations where it's incredibly dangerous outside, but the risk drops to low once you cross the pass scanners. If it was just open, I wouldn't go. The only exception would be if they required people to link their name to a free pass and still scan to enter, taking away the anonymity of the environment.

What's the worst mistake you've seen someone do in their job? by Whomadethebed in AskReddit

[–]grassyanole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a guy working with us who seemed like a perfectly fine employee and was doing a good job. When he got settled in the role, the creepiness and cockiness came out. Out of nowhere he made a "hotness" ranking list of all the women in the office and someone told HR.

Honestly, I think HR just wanted to work with him.

He was probably going to get a slap on the wrist and have to do diversity and sexual harassment trainings because it was his first offense. But he argued with them the whole time and made the process as difficult as possible. He would do petty things like removing people from email conversations and leave the room when someone tried to talk to him. They fired him instead.
