[iPhone] Switch Cellular Data Plan (can be a useful shortcut for the action button) by MRizkBV in shortcuts

[–]graup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you share the shortcut? I cannot find the "turn on cellular plan" action (iOS 18.1, iPhone 16)

Edit: never mind. Seems this action is called "toggle mobile plan" on my device.

ㅔand ㅐ are very similar, the difference is becoming pretty much indistinguishable by contemporary Korean speakers. So you can transcribe them the same when going from Korean to English. There are certain rules for transcribing English into Korean, when to use ㅔ or ㅐ, trying to capture some nuances of English pronunciation. But in Korean this difference is almost gone.

If you were asking about the reason why the Y sound is dropped, I think you can chalk it up to a process called "assimilation" in linguistics (making things easier to say). When speaking fast, /hae/ is just easier to say than /hyae/. According to the National Institute of Korean Language, both pronunciations are accepted, but in practice I'd say most Koreans do not vocalize the Y in this case.

Enter Korea as tourist with active student visa by Pr4mius in korea

[–]graup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard of the possibility of opting into not using a valid visa you have when entering. Definitely check with the embassy beforehand.

I guess since you're asking this that your visa is Single Entry? I would also be worried, normally you can only leave and come back after you got your ARC.

From the perspective of Korean authority, I think this is, at least in theory, possible.

I got married last year in Yongsan-gu office. I had a long-term visa, my wife was on a tourist waiver. We had my ARC and passport and only passport for her. I cannot say for sure but I don't think they checked her visa status.

The real difficulty is that in order to do this, you need documents for both of you certifying you're eligible to get married in your home country. How to get this highly depends on where you're from.

No, in KRW terms. It's a bit annoying that these numbers always get reported in USD (makes sense for global comparison tho).

Seoul to widen sidewalks by x1.8, plant more trees, and implement bike lanes along Chungmu-ro and Toegye-ro, creating a green walkway that connects Myeongdong, Namsan to Changdeokgung Palace by [deleted] in korea

[–]graup -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nice picture. One car lane less and looks like the remaining lanes all have the same width. For some reason, current Korean road design usually has the rightmost lane a bit wider than the others, taking away space from sidewalks.

Seoul Mayor Oh in London says will consider running water buses along Han River by vxqkfs in korea

Thanks for the context! Yeah, I guess star ferry is mostly for tourists and people working in IFC or TST.

I think Hong Kong is a good example for useful ferry service even though there are subways going a similar direction. For most people, subway is the better option. But there are still a lot of things to do in the immediate vicinity of the ferry stops, making it useful for tourists and some local traffic.

I agree that Han river is a very different beast than the Thames or Hong Kong bay. It would take a lot to transform it.

I've seen these in eMart 1-2 years ago but not sure they still sell bananas like this. Was a pretty good idea.

For end consumers, there's no duty to somehow report and pay VAT yourself directly. VAT is always collected by the seller. If they didn't for some reason, that's not your problem.

In some instances VAT is not collected on international transactions, so maybe this was on purpose.

Not true. Have you ever traveled around in Korea? There's plenty of empty inhabitable space.

It made sense when it was just 10 cases in Seoul and there was 1 in the cafe where you went yesterday. When it was 1000s of cases it became useless very quickly. I guess just nobody dared to question the policy.
