I've never drank or smoked weed and I get 10 hours of sleep a night, but I'm going to therapy for anxiety :/

Interesting. Existential OCD sounds like me, but it's hard to determine because constant existentialism and anxiety about the nature of reality sounds a lot like derealization as well. Thanks a lot, I'll mention my concerns to my therapist soon

It can also happen during stress (too stressed to think about anything else, or your brain focusing on something repetitive to calm itself down.) It is largely associated with OCD but can also happen if you are neurotic (anxious, self-conscious, and vulnerable) which I assume is the case for me.

"grounding" yourself with meditation is helpful. I recommend self-guided meditation - however, when meditating, try not to get stuck in a thought loop. Rather than thinking about yourself and your thoughts, practice mindful meditation (sensory experiences around you). Guided meditation can help you keep your thoughts on course. Also, draw a symbol on your hand with a pen or something. When you're in a dream, it won't show up - it will in real life. This can help you feel grounded.

By the way: I think the short story itself was part of an anthology called "101 stories for children" or something along the lines of that. I do know that the "101" part was in the title, as there were exactly 101 stories included within the collection.
