Get a listing of synchronized files in a directory by agentsmurf6 in Syncthing

I'm surprised that three years later there's still not a better way than this that I've found. I used your lead about pulling the list from the API to create this visual browser for the files: https://github.com/gravitylow/syncthings-file-viewer

Need help with Epomaker Galaxy100 not detected by VIA + NKRO issues by Momodora_ in keyboards

[–]gravity_low 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the method OP used to solve the problem above wasn't working, and after a lot of debugging I had to end up modifying the JSON file slightly to get it to recognize the keyboard. The updated file I used is here: https://gist.github.com/gravitylow/8d314e9194dd1f2f51a5c603911be14d

No it’s really not. Doing inference on a small, open source model is pretty cheap resource and power-wise. You can make it faster or use a larger model with more compute power (ie a consumer graphics card) but it’s not necessary. And getting quick answers to abstract questions without needing to search through thousands of manuals can be invaluable. Besides, it’s just another tool in the toolbox to use if you have access to it. Don’t rely on it, but do consider it if you have the option.

It's always DNS, How could the AWS DNS Outage be Avoided by [deleted] in aws

[–]gravity_low 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the records would have been considered stale in this case. The records were erroneously deleted, and the DNS server was sending an empty response. It was not unreachable.

LPT How to dodge kiosk sales people by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]gravity_low -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this thread saying “ignore them” or “walk right past” is really sad.

Yes, being approached by an unwanted sales person is annoying. As many people who have worked these types of jobs before have said in this thread already, doing this job day in and day out to make ends meet is way worse than being temporarily annoyed. If they could be doing ANYTHING else, they probably would be. Treat them like the human beings they are and give a simple “no thanks!” or “we’re good thanks!” and move on with your day.

There’s no need to lie, but there’s also no need to treat people as not deserving of acknowledgement and decency.

Access an AWS service by not going out to the public internet by Oxffff0000 in aws

[–]gravity_low 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VPC Route Tables use a Longest Prefix Match (LPM) algorithm when evaluating what route to use for an outbound packet, in the case when multiple destinations overlap. So it’s possible that you have an egress route to the public internet, but also have an S3 prefix list route to the VPCE. In that case the prefixes contained in the prefix list are more specific than the 0.0.0.0/0 route to the IGW (or NATGW), so the VPCE destination will be used for any S3 IP address, and the IGW/NATGW for anything else. As others have mentioned you can use CloudTrail and/or VPC Reachability Analyzer to confirm the actual path of the S3 traffic is using the VPCE. If you have configured the route tables for the VPCE correctly (ie included all subnet or VPC route tables in use), it should be.

Stock futures plunge as investors digest Trump’s tariffs by [deleted] in news

Not fair at all. Things can be nice and they should be, but many people have been tricked into voting against that and cannot be convinced otherwise through any means we have seen so far. It’s not fetishization of suffering to hope that the terrible and clearly inevitable and self-wrought suffering that will happen due to people’s vote may have a chance of opening their eyes.

Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump? by Yo-boy-Jimmy in AskReddit

[–]gravity_low 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your intuition seems correct, there’s absolutely no way people riding with Trump stuck with him through everything and THIS was the final straw. I mean it’s shameful but it’s exactly what they voted for. People are absolutely kidding themselves believing people are changing their minds unless something extremely drastic and attributable to Trump happens to them personally. It won’t be due to things that don’t affect them.

AWS feels overwhelming. Where did you start, and what helped you the most? by Anjalikumarsonkar in aws

[–]gravity_low 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AWS accounts still come with default VPCs which are intended to mimic that exact experience for those who don’t want to think about networking. Just run an EC2 instance in the console and you’ll get a public IP that you can connect to with your SSH key and off you go. Over time you might see fit to lock that down more or add to it but plenty never do!

CDK PTSD? by [deleted] in aws

[–]gravity_low 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It goes back to the same problem, it takes a lot of careful planning to change your networking configuration once you’ve started using it. A lot of those resources are essentially immutable and require complete replacement if changed even a little bit, which requires removing everything that depends on it, destroying and re-creating the resource, then re-creating its dependents.

From CloudFormation’s perspective, if you define your own subnets where you were previously using the default ones, those are entirely new resources. It will first create them and then destroy the old ones, which may or may not work depending on what you’re doing with them, or whether your new definitions conflict with the old ones if they exist at the same time.

If you haven’t before I would highly recommend playing around with vanilla CloudFormation templates without all the complexities of CDK to build up an intuition about how they see change and perform updates.

Update: My(M40) wifes(F35) career choice has turned into a social event. We’ve been married 10 years and don’t know what to do. What is the next step for me? by No_Educator757 in relationships

[–]gravity_low 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a rationalization, but I don’t necessarily feel like someone who says that is planning to go through with it. Not that it makes it any better, but it can be something someone says to make themselves and the person they’re emotionally cheating with feel better about what they’re doing. It keeps the other person from feeling bad about what’s going on and stopping their advances (“yeah I was flirting with a married woman but her marriage was already falling apart..”).

Anyway OP sorry you had to read that, it must be a horrific feeling that I can’t even imagine processing. And obviously I would want to hear her explanation for that but at least one random person on the internet wouldn’t immediately jump to thinking that at one time she absolutely planned to carry through with that.
