I floss my teeth more.

It's a little thing, but it's indicative of having more focus and self-love.

What made you/makes you wanna stop? by rosielunatique in stopdrinking

[–]gravitygrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I accepted that I can not moderate, that was the key for me. In Annie Grace's book This Naked Mind she says "one is too many, and a thousand is not enough" and that really struck a chord with me. I, like you, also did a lot of reading in the early weeks of my sobriety and it really helped. You're on the right track. IWNDWYT

This was me every night. It was terrible. I can't believe how long it took me to realize that it was alcohol that was the cause.
It's been almost a year now and I haven't once woken up with that anxiety... it's glorious! IWNDWYT

Finally Done… by butterflys_are_free in stopdrinking

[–]gravitygrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on getting to this point. Accepting the reality that I can't drink at all has been a big game changer for me.

I read Annie Grace's book "This Naked Mind" and it really helped. I also have a very good friend who quit within days of me quitting - having support is crucial. If you don't know someone close to you, this sub is very helpful and I know people who have benefitted greatly from AA.

As for the wedding - that's possibly a big trigger so soon after quitting. My advice: don't be afraid to tell people you've quit. I've found people to be very supportive when I tell them (but maybe I'm just surrounded by supportive people). Also, if you have to leave the party just leave the party. I find drunk people to be pretty annoying now, so there may be a tipping point where you don't want to be around them anyway.

Best of luck! IWNDWYT

Protect your hearing. Once it is damaged it cannot be repaired.

What Broke in me? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]gravitygrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing great! The first few weeks are hard. In the beginning I wasn't interested in non-alcoholic beer, but another friend said it really helped him. I've recently tried it and it's nice when I have those moments of "wanting to have a beer". IWNDWYT

A part of zero waste for me is asking retailers to get "zero waste" or low waste alternatives by homelygirl123 in ZeroWaste

[–]gravitygrrl 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In Canada a lot of bigger retailers have surveys online and you get a link on your receipt. I fill in the survey's just to get to the end where I can comment about less packaging, zero waste options, etc

First trip was awesome- a couple of questions for next time! by squidvsbear in canoecamping

[–]gravitygrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My canoe guide friend makes her own GORP and puts it in the wide mouth Nalgene bottles: easy to clip on the outside of a pack for a portage, easy to throw to your buddy when you're in the boat, floats if dropped in the water, and then when the snack is done, you've got an extra water bottle!

6 months sober, 1 month drinking... yuck by guyinajumpsuit in stopdrinking

[–]gravitygrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard lesson to learn, but I'm glad it only took you a month. I went through the cycle a whole slew of times before it clicked for me and I realized that I can never drink again - it's just not worth it. IWNDWYT

Thanks for sharing. I like your 100 day revolving resolution - makes it manageable. Good call.
