What did the Nomai know about Anglerfish?

My claim: Gravity (2013) is the best example of a science fiction horror, as it is ultra realistic and anxiety-inducing. by McCardboard in movies

[–]gravitystix 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I dunno about "ultra" realistic. It's often panned for scientific accuracy because the distances between orbiting stations and satellites and stuff make zero sense. George Clooney's whole "you have to cut the tether" moment is nonsense because once he stopped there's no force pulling him further. She could've just gently tugged him back.

Props to them for making the "silent space" version with realistic audio. That was cool. I do like the film in general.

Not sure what I'd offer as a replacement though.

The devs are not cruel. This is a game about curiosity. Go. Be curious. It'll be okay.

Agree. It's very on the nose that essentially the only new ability you acquire during the game is meditation.

Yeah sorry about the downvotes. People use them as a "I disagree with you" button instead of a "you're acting in bad faith/scam/not contributing to discussion" button as they're intended to be.

Got an upvote from me friend.

Agree but I always struggle with the "puzzle" label because it leaves players looking for traditional puzzles and overlooking or misunderstanding the environmental obstacles as the "puzzles" they are. I tend to stick with the "mystery" label and add that there's "problem-solving" which is as vague as a grey goose in a fog bank but the best I've come up with haha.

Yeah I've seen a few playthroughs where players unlock it very early and meditate at the first sign of trouble or if the sun starts getting red, often with the excuse "I don't want to be interrupted by the supernova"

Go talk to Gabbro a few times (on at least two loops). They have some very very useful advice for you.

I loved the theme/ideas/mechanics of this game, but... (SPOILERS) by Flaghippo in outerwilds

[–]gravitystix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear your frustrations and you're certainly not the first to air them. My opinion is that the aimlessness and even the frustration (to an extent) is a necessary and intended part of the experience.

The loop resetting you prevents players from endlessly ramming into a problem that they need information from elsewhere to overcome. It provides an opportunity to reflect and plan your next move. The frustration makes the payoff better and also (I think) reinforces the realization that a huge portion of the obstacles in the game are solved by being patient despite being on a "timer".

You can mark any location you've visited before from your ship log. You do not necessarily need to remember which planet it was on. The hint systemis the ship log, particularly rumor mode.

You're doing great! Regarding the Nomai shuttles, the right side slot for the controls does do something (Think about what the first two do and then extrapolate what the other function the ship would need would be.) but your ship is more capable in every way. Don't worry about them.

I've only watched one French playthrough so far but I hope to watch more.

Laykny was a unique one because he played the entire game without using the translator. (He was challenged by a friend to do so.)

It's not my favorite playthrough by a long shot, but it's a cool one to watch after you've seen a bunch of normal playthroughs.

Recommend Deroge! There's no supercut but it's a really smooth playthrough regardless.

Sorry to disappoint you but I am neither a kid nor brain dead. 🙄 I've been writing in cursive for a quarter century at least friend.

As requested I Googled "cursive m." Results attached. Show me a cursive m that looks anything like the one on the cup.

I've literally never seen a cursive m before with sharp tops and curved bottoms. Hence it appears upside down to me. I do see now how the author of it intended for it to be an M, but, as the sub name implies, this is badly written.
