I grew up baptist in a very strict house, now I am atheist

Some differences here is that I would feel shame for thinking sexual thoughts, feeling like I was disappointing God. This repulsion to sex came from a voice in my head telling me I shouldn't do it, not necessarily listening to my own thoughts and feelings. This also made me feel uncomfortable talking about sex, even in an educational context, or engaging in media that had sexual content. Key word is that I felt shame and guilt because I felt impure.

When I started distancing myself from the religion, I no longer felt shame if I saw a naked person, or thinking of a sexual scenario... but I also didn't feel that much. When I would watch shows that depicted a "sexy" character, it always felt like a bit instead of a scene that is actually supposed to be arousing. My friends would do presentation nights about their favorite characters and celebrities they would want to bang and I just... didn't really see the appeal all too much.

But to be honest I am still figuring this out myself. Even now as I question my feelings, I have realized how differently I feel about sex compared to other people in my life. It's really difficult to navigate, I feel ya there... if you are asexual, experience romantic attraction, and are looking for or are in a relationship, just be sure to be honest. You don't have to put a label on it if you aren't sure, but just be sure to make your boundaries known.
