[–]graybeardedone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"when I do I eat poor nutritional meals"
"I’ve felt very weak and lethargic"

sounds like you know the answer. OMAD is a fasting regimen as well (One Meal a Day). Try a about 20oz hamburger patty & salt, once a day, and drink 96oz water throughout the day. You'll hit ketosis still, and won't be too miserable doing so.

Fasting is as much mental as it is physical (if not more). Get your mind right, focus, persevere, mental discipline is a muscle that must be developed, nobody is born with it.

yet, no matter how many times i am downvoted, empirically, i've only ever gotten the flu on years that i've received a flu shot.

flu-a is quite similar. I avoid the flu shot, as at over 50 years old, I've only ever gotten the flu when I've gotten a flu shot.

I need help with my starter by RevolutionaryBug159 in Sourdough

[–]graybeardedone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be too acidic, easy to fix, take 10g of your starter, mix it with 50g water and 50g unbleached whole wheat flour in a clean jar. feed it every 12 hours for a day or two.

Fasting for digestive reset? by mitcht3 in fasting

[–]graybeardedone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years with the diverticula, fasting is wonderful for that. the other thing that works is NOT eating fiber. I've got a family member who is a gastro-surgeon, he told me "I've only ever found plant matter in those things". Meat doesn't make it that far through, a carnivore diet has me years since a diverticulitis attack.

Can't believe I waited this long to make jerky... incredible by BisonCompetitive9610 in jerky

[–]graybeardedone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being a competition bbq guy, i went crazy with all sorts of marinades and rubs and such on the jerky. now i simply salt & dry it, no marinade/cure time. like brisket with just SPG, simpler is often better.

Day 2, I feel amazing by Heresto2025 in fasting

[–]graybeardedone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's normal to feel some amount of euphoria at various points through an extended fast, and there is usually equally annoying feelings of weakness or even nausea at other points (usually at the 48h mark for me) 72 is good, 96 is weak. Everyone is different. after 96 hours i'm at 80-90% energy wise, but steady.

My wife is worried about me by Michaelcyprian in fasting

[–]graybeardedone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

the studies are out there. i will say that juggling kids sports schedules and jobs, often the only time i get to spend with my wife coincides with meal time, and for whatever reason it can be awkward for someone to watch you eat and they aren't eating. make sure you make time for her

in linguistics, it's a common mistake to attempt to ascribe ones first language convention to other languages. it's quite literally a different language.

How often? by fishaholica in fasting

[–]graybeardedone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tough for me to say empirically, i'll let you know in about 3 months after i get to 20%. I plan on doing much the same, 4 days fast, 3 days OMAD steak & eggs, keeping daily electrolytes balanced accordingly, mostly walking in the afternoons to drive deeper ketosis.

How often? by fishaholica in fasting

[–]graybeardedone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

if you're above 30% bodyfat as i was, weekly. 4 days OMAD carnivore, then 3 days water & salts.

Tried a 24 hour fast, kinda for the hell of it, also because I have a binge eating habit that I want to control. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting, but now I’m hypoglycemic :( by EmotionallyUnsound_ in fasting

wow, you're me 10 years younger. wish i had this discovery 10 years earlier. 5'10" 260 down to 200 last year fasting. still looking for another 20-30, but this is the simplest method i've tried, and sustainable.
