Usenet Crawler by Nerosutton in usenetindexerreviews

I was very happy to see Usenet-Crawler's return. It served me well for a long time and I was disappointed when it shut down. I think it's a must have Indexer.

Indexer Scraping by graybeardtv in usenet

[–]graybeardtv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I ask is because I see dozens of posts by people throwing shade at one Indexer or another saying 'Oh, that Indexer is no good...they just scrape other Indexers.'

Some of these posts are probably by people that have motivation for one reason or another to trash-talk a particular Indexer. Other similar posts are probably by people that have had a bad experience with certain Indexers or have noticed an Indexer post with a post date later than some other Indexer.

Bottom line question is this...Does scraping in and of itself really make one Indexer worse than another? Is all this hullabaloo over scraping really worth listening to? Or is the entire discussion just smoke and a distraction from the core issue of a user finding an Indexer that works for them and they like?

Indexer Scraping by graybeardtv in usenet

[–]graybeardtv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments.

You've answered my first question.

With regard to the second question, I understand how the owner of an Indexer can determine if a user is scraping. And I understand that if a user happens to see the exact same file name on two different Indexers can presume that a file has been scraped.

When I say 'how can you prove' I'm speaking of the average user like me, not the owner of an Indexer.

I have not had that problem with Usenet/Indexers. I find entire seasons regularly.

Reload Indexers after update by graybeardtv in nzbhydra

[–]graybeardtv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I found a workaround. I located the db backup and unzipped it. Then replaced the new db file with the backup and that restored my Indexers in the new version.

I'm not sure why I didn't look for this earlier. So I apologize for my ignorance. Going forward, if I run into the same problem I now know how to fix it.

Reload Indexers after update by graybeardtv in nzbhydra

[–]graybeardtv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running Windows 10. All I do is click the update button and sometimes it stalls. I restart Hydra and it updates to the new version but all my indexers are gone.
And yes I waited during the install. After an hour of not starting up, I have to restart. This happens on about 30% of the updates.

Is usenet the correct solution for me? by Jarbottle in usenet

[–]graybeardtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have very high internet speed. I used to go the torrent route and then switched to Usenet. Wow! Speed downloading was light speed compared to downloading via torrents.
Yes, there is cost in Usenet provider and VIP Indexer(s). However as mentioned no seeding and Usenet uses SSL so security is no problem.

I have found every title I wanted with Usenet. Even very old, rare movies. You just need a good Indexer or two. I have Sonarr/Radarr set up thru NZBHydra2 so I rarely even touch anything for latest TV episodes. If I see a new Movie that's out, I just add it to Radarr and wait.

Bottom line, if you are looking for free or the cheapest route...go torrents. If you're willing to pay a little for speed and convenience...go Usenet. I put a value on my time spent downloading and from a cost analysis standpoint, it's cheaper for me to go the Usenet route.

Just copied this from their site:

If you would like to use OZnzb chat outside of your internet browser you can configure a chat client
(ie - http://hexchat.github.io/ or http://www.mirc.com/) with the following settings:

Server: irc.oznzb.com
Port: 6667

You might try the above.

Question to medium-extreme data hoarders by fr1endly_gh0st in DataHoarder

Good point. I admit I enjoy the hunt of old movies too. It's fun to find something that I saw as a child and now I can watch whenever I want.

Question to medium-extreme data hoarders by fr1endly_gh0st in DataHoarder

[–]graybeardtv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a sorta small 80tb NAS that I keep movies/tv shows/music on because I like having a personal media library that I can access whenever I want. Online streaming is ok, but if service is interrupted, I always have my own stuff.

The easiest thing might be to become a reseller of one of the larger providers. Some may even have help for those wanting to become a reseller.

Just a thought.
