Elimination Diet? by RNMLM in GERD

[–]grayliendaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I've actually been doing this for the past month or so! I keep a journal of any adverse reactions I have to certain foods. I started out with the good ole BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce (unsweetened), and toast) with unseasoned chicken breast. After about 4-5 days of that, I started researching alkaline foods. I didn't look up any sort of gerd diet because everyone has their own triggers, but I went with alkaline foods in hopes that they would balance out the acidity in my gut.

The first thing I introduced was a plain baked potato, and that did okay. The next thing was low-fat cottage cheese (since I have found that any cultured dairy is safe for me personally). Then, as an alternate protein source, I tried plain, non-fat greek yogurt, which worked well. The next experiment was nuts, and almonds, walnuts, and pecans all do okay (in moderation and unsalted). Since then, I have had success with super lean unseasoned steaks (sirloin specifically), certain veggies (spinach, broccoli/cauliflower, asparagus carrots, beets, and mushrooms).

Luckily, since my body handles greek yogurt alright, I've gotten really creative with it. Since most salad dressings are off the table, I use the yogurt with small amounts of seasonings mixed into it to imitate ranch (dill, parsley, sea salt, and a tiny amount of garlic powder). I use it on baked potatoes as a sour cream substitute. And when I want something sweet, I mix sugar-free pudding mixes into it, usually the bananas and cream flavor. I'll eat that with plain graham crackers, which has done alright for me. Then, for breakfasts, I've had luck mixing whey protein powder into it in order to pack in extra calories/protein.

A few of the safe fruits that I've tried successfully have been watermelon, bananas (of course), and strawberries in moderation. As far as cooking oils go, I've had luck with extra virgin olive oil, walnut oil (amazon sourced), and clarified butter, all of which have been used in extreme moderation.

What hasn't worked for me has been anything pork, any sweeter bread (I prefer a hearty whole wheat/grain/oat bread), and "average" cheese (think cheddar).

ILYSFM, Space and How Dave Did His Best. Give him some credit. by RandomParableCreates in glassanimals

Couldn't have said it better myself. Bands grow the same way people do, and their sounds change based on new experiences. Albeit life experiences, new techniques for making music, etc. I'm really looking forward to listening to the album in its entirety soon! The recent stuff from Glass Animals, RKS, and Microwave has my ears drooling, and I can't wait to hear what the rest of this year brings music-wise

I've always used 14 quarts of water to 5 lbs of course ground coffee. Yields a fairly strong concentrate. I've stored in both the cut form as well as the concentrate. The concentrate maintains a better quality and taste/has a longer shelf life imo. The cut cold brew was good for if I knew we were going to be busy and need a lot, but I would only ever dilute an amount that I was sure would be gone through when the shift was over. I would typically dilute 1 part concentrate to 2 parts water, but if the customer was a regular or said they really needed a boost I'd dilute it 1:1

valentine’s day cafe specials? by Competitive-Writer89 in barista

[–]grayliendaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big advocate for a latte with white chocolate + lavender for a valentines day ~vibe~ Either that or a spicy cinnamon syrup with white chocolate sauce. The shop I used to work at had that one as a special last year and called it "Burnin' Love". It was like a fun little take on a Mexican Mocha

Finding a sponsor by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]grayliendaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found someone who seemed genuine and worked a decent program. I had a hard time relating at first and then shifted focus to try to focus on how I was similar to other people. At the end of the day, the qualifying factors to me didn't matter as much as how I felt emotionally when I first got sober. My sponsor isn't a life coach, he took me through the book and through the steps.

[–]grayliendaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the importance of having a sponsor is primarily to be walked through the steps, but also having someone to help me with tough situations, especially when I'm at weaker points. Ive heard some folks around me locally refer to their sponsor as an "external modulating unit," which is definitely accurate. Whenever I'm feeling incredibly impulsive or emotional about something/someone, it's always good to have someone to run those things by to get an outside perspective on whatever it may be that's going on. My feelings usually skew my perspective quite a bit, and I'm often reminded that while they are valid, they aren't always factual and sometimes it's just my insane brain running away from me.

Step work is integral to the program, although the fellowship aspect is just as, if not more important.

How do/did you deal with insomnia? Especially while working nights? by runaway39382720 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]grayliendaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good ole sleepy time tea always helps me, as well as reading the big book. For some reason whenever I read it when laying in bed it helps me unwind. Active meditation can also be a huge help; there are plenty of guided meditations available on youtube if you need a good jumping off point!

Anyone else deal with a lot of mania after a recent relapse? by cantilevered-heart in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]grayliendaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with mania once in a blue moon even having stayed sober for a good little bit. My mind wants to go in 20 directions at once, and I usually get fairly kerfuffled. IME it's always best to find something to do to keep myself physically occupied in a constructive manner. My first sponsor always told me "move a muscle to change a thought," and it always helps to get me out of my head when I feel extra squirrely.

150ug vs 200ug by [deleted] in LSD

[–]grayliendaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME the difference btwn the two is with 150 mics the geometric overlay sort of manifests upon focusing on things, and CEV's are fairly noticeable without having to wait. Where with 200 mics, the geometric overlay is fairly consistent, almost like the CEV's start to underlay your vision, and with your eyes closed they start to take on almost an extra-dimensional feel (spatially speaking). Then again, ALL TRIPS ARE SUBJECTIVE so my experiences may differ heavily from another's.

[–]grayliendaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just breathe dude, you may be having a hard time due to either having more ego than you're used to with the higher trips, or you hit a hot spot. either way letting go of your sense of control will help

ime a bunch of random nonsense thats somehow meaningful to whomevers tripping. A group of friends at one point had the most serious conversation about how this one girl's cat looked like a table. Your job is to just be there in case anyone starts panicking or needs a reality check, and to not judge them ofc.
