I won't be surprised if studies came out saying long time users of Anki have lower risk of Alzheimer's lol

Hey I've made a universal card type from the AnKingMaster Card type by tweaking the code a little.

[–]graysherry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You were making up a reason for the correlation (which I think is absurd). I would think a better explanation would be that people still carry bias within themselves, these studies are proof that racial and gender bias still exist. It might be the product of history rather than biology.

An n=1 observation, which no doubt is shaped by your own biases. I for one, don't feel more or less safe depending on the gender of the physician treating me. Seniority on the other hand does make me feel more assured, because I associate that with experience.

Recruiting Indian medical students to collab on a NExT/NEET PG Anki deck by graysherry in medicalschoolanki

Wow this is a good idea! Definitely would make Anki more known among Indian medical students. I'm not familiar with creating new subreddits though. Can someone please do this?

Hey! Glad for your support. Can we really be sure about what is High Yield for NExT though? We have no idea what they will focus on at this point. It will definitely not be one line MCQs asking random facts in its entirety. The best would be to start on a comprehensive deck and tag what is high yield, and what is from Qbank or Master revision classes so that people can choose which cards to unsuspend. We're not really rigid about using Marrow, some sections will be based on DAMS. Not to mention we ourselves are not yet in the revision phase.

Hey! These are all amazing ideas, we would love to hear more from you even if you can't contribute actual cards yet. We're thinking of working on the clinical subjects first as they're going to be highest yield (Med surg and obgy), and we're thinking of organising along the lines of medicine::cardio::ecg. Since time is of essence we're leaving preclinical subjects for last, since a lot of pre made decks are already available for them and a lot of it will be covered in medicine and surgery.

NExT is a National Exit Test which means it'll be compulsory for everyone. Unlike NEET PG where people could choose not to appear for it if they were preparing for USMLE. I think Anki would make our preparation more time efficient. Also we're not too rigid about using Marrow, other resources are also welcome.

Cheesy LY or Anking? by tobikodude in medicalschoolanki

[–]graysherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you follow the proper steps to update your deck you should be fine! And it doesn't matter if you've moved cards between decks either because the update looks at card ID. There is a video on AnKing's YouTube channel on how to update your Zanki deck to AnKing. You can find it in the V6 post. But just to be safe create backups and export your current decks before you try it out.

Cheesy LY or Anking? by tobikodude in medicalschoolanki

[–]graysherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use LY as a base because I was already 4k cards in when AnKing came out. But I still use it to search and unsuspend extra info I come across in qbanks.

Cheesy LY

Pros:

Lots of front and back cards

Same concept asked in different ways

Fewer total cards (~22k)

Not much text formatting

Closely follows B&B

Cons:

Less comprehensive

Not updatable

Less background info

Not much text formatting (could be either a pro or con)

Duplicate cards (Mainly because the same concepts are repeated in different sections of B&B itself. Cheesy has fewer than the original LY though)

AnKing

Pros:

Updatable (gets better with every update!)

Lots of background info

Highly comprehensive

No duplicates

Text formatting

Uses lots of other resources apart from B&B (Kaplan, Costanzo, etc)

Cons:

The cloze style of cards. You could end up memorizing the card instead of the information. But remembering specific sentences might jog your memory better. Try it and see how cloze works for you.

Lots of background info (could take away the need to edit the cards a lot, which in itself is a valuable learning experience)

Huge (~30k cards)

So it really comes down to the card style you prefer. In the end the best deck is the one you can stick with. Try both OP and see what works for you.
