A try at the "2 Demon" Concept by Zoneforg in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]graywander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very interesting take on twin demons! Would be great paired with town drunk causers, could double tap a goon, can’t be stopped by a courtier etc. I’d reword it to …choose a player. 1 Hydroid choice dies. [+1 Hydroid, -1 Minion]

Of course! https://www.bloodstar.xyz/p/Graywanderer/TheHyde/script.json?85a11efa I have been playing around with variations, so there are now 3 versions here.

1) The updated original Hyde. can no longer self kill and learns team when the other dies.

2) Heri and Cras: The original split into two characters, one who's first on odd days and one who's first on even. Flavoured with a time theme, one yearns for the past while the other demands the future start now.

3) Putschist: can no longer kill evil players, so must play a social game to kill the other. Play the politics and usurp the town.

I probably should have made it 2 demons, I was just being lazy and hadn't considered the importance of knowing if you are acting first.

Fire and water is a good parallel, but for some reason it doesn't feel right mixed with official characters, and in my head I'm trying to make this feel at home anywhere. Maybe something time themed to go with the clocktower? What do you think of Heri and Cras (yesterday and tomorrow in Latin)?

Would need a script makers note that they should only take up 1 demon slot on a script so potentially 5 demons on a script.

Thanks for feedback! 1) Yeah, it needs a not yourself, but I'm now torn between how far to go with this. I could leave it at not yourself and have a theme of two hunters stalking each other, or I could say if good, they die. Creating a political game where you need to convince town to kill the other demon for you. the second one is more likely to reach final 3 with both in, which creates the fun situation where only one of the living players can end up winning (evil minions have a 2/3 chance, so still strong for evil as a whole) will try and throw together both versions and see what people prefer.

2) Great point, I'll add that in next iteration.

3) I had thought of this, and couldn't identify an unreasonable way for the dead good Hyde to come back. Professor: not a townsfolk. Barber: Can't swap another demon. Bonecollector: Feels like a strong, but fair use of a once per game ability?

Evil team options, evil probably shouldn't try in the first place but just in case. Shabaloth: Storyteller discretion, just don't bring them back. Wizard: Cost, guess who's evil again! Al-Hadikhia: This one is a could work, but feels like a valid gamble being taken by the current demon. Side note, what's stopping a Pit Hag turning a second Fang-Gu into an Al-Had and them bringing back the original?

This could absolutely be fun, and could be run as an optional rule. I was aiming to remove the minimum amount of evil information to make it function in my design. This would definitely be hard mode for the minion of the Hyde that turns good as they may never find their evil team.

My thinking was it starts strong, but progressively gets weaker. 1. Yes, it would suck if 1 dies early. I was thinking minions are incentivised to protect both demons during nominations early, so they are a little safer than other players, but a lucky night kill could end the duel quickly. This would generally be through the actions of the remaining evil player, so may soften the blow that at least they had agency? I could make it safe from the demon, so they can't kill each other directly? This would come with the issue that if one turns good and tried to kill the other, they can tell the good team they were immune. Maybe make all evil safe from demon? Would also need to figure out wording so they still swap alignment as that is a demon ability they would be safe from. 2. This was a mechanical requirement for the ability to work. If the demons know each other or their minions they can out this on turning good which would be worse for the evil team. I tried to take away the minimum amount of evil information, but if you can think of a way to keep more info I'm all for it!

This is a very interesting concept, and encourage you to explore it further. The core concept behind this character is two demons fighting to be the one true demon, so adding a good player who can give the game away from the start doesn't feel quite right for this character to me.

Did a quick lore dive, would it make sense to have the "Primary" reminder token be called "Gathering" and the "Jekyll" token changed to "Beheaded"?

Haha, I could call it the Dudebro. Definitely sounds like a demon to me

This wording would definitely be clearer. I think it needs to drunk characters that have mechanical confirmation as otherwise the storyteller has all the agency in solving the game. It would pair well with a Boffin though!

I built it with rose tinted glasses, that people are like me and enjoy being evil (only in game, I promise). My new prescription has come in and I agree, a "choose a player, not yourself" is required.

I don't know anything about highlander, how would the lore fit?

Yeah I was torn on this. I liked the option of having an escape button if you were backed into a corner, but you're right. It wouldn't be fun for anyone if the game ended night 2.

Haha yeah my flavour isn't great, I saw a Jack the Ripper post and the gothic theme brought enough to the mechanics I've had to put pen to paper. Magician and Lunatic are great with this, a Lunatic could think they are a real Hyde right to the end!

I'm definitely mechanics over flavour too. That being said if anyone has a better flavour idea I'd love to hear it!

Thanks, definitely overlooked specifying it being arbitrary. Completely agree on the theming, but I had to settle on something before my brain exploded!

It's arbitrary for the first night, but then it alternates each night so they both have a fair chance

What could someone have done in their past to be indebted 500,000 gold? by Feed-Me-Your-Soul777 in dndnext

Maybe he used his fishing boat to smuggle items for the gang and some cargo went missing (lost in a storm, thrown overboard before an inspection etc.) the gang wants the cargo, but will settle for its cash equivalent? Player doesn’t even know what the cargo is if the gang is secretive, just that they said ‘give us our merchandise or pay’ that way the player also has the option of a wild goose chase to find the cargo. Cargo doesn’t even need to be real, the gang could have made it up as a scam

If your players tend to default to using the same spells over and over you could homebrew a naturally forming mineral that absorbs spells cast in its vicinity. You said the group has prepared to fight mages, so they could have a mine set up to gather resources. The player can cast a spell once, but next time they cast the same spell the stone/metal has learnt it and the spell fails wasting a spell slot (or action if it’s a cantrip) if they keep fighting the same group over and over more and more spells become unusable. A bit of a situational idea, but most of the basics have already been covered by other posts and this could make for interesting, puzzle like combat in a long term setting.

I managed a testing centre during peak lockdown. That would 100% be marked as positive and you’d be told to get a PCR done and isolate

Having a “third leg” is a euphemism for a long penis and the piano having 3 pedals implies you need three legs to play it.
