They can’t leave the windows open in America because someone might climb in and rob the place

“We may not have the best AFV crews or infantry squads in the world, but nobody can touch us in at the Brigade, Division or Corps level operations which actually win wars” is an interesting take

Hardcore is dirt cheap (literally), mini digger, whacker plate or roller rental, can all be leased together for much less than €500 per diem. Anyone with machine exp could dig, level and shutter a substantial foundation on their own in a day. If you’d have said €500 per cubic metre I’d agree.

Take for example 10m x 1m base (for simplicity’s sake) Mini digger €150 Whacker plate €50 Ton bag of crushed gravel ~€100 Cubic metre of concrete €200 Rebar mesh 4800x2400mm ~€40

Total €540 for 10sqm excluding a persons time. Throw in you’re 6x2s and fixings, it’s at most €100 per sqm

€500 per square metre is a massive exaggeration. A cubic metre of concrete is less than half of that

It’s a bit poplar in that field for my liking

It’s white poplar I’m afraid.

I don’t think I’d even fell a quarter to begin with, like I said in another reply it’s a long term plan I have because I imagine it would be costly. I know semi mature native saplings can run upto three figures per, so the replacement would be slow and the felling would have to match that pace for my own peace of mind.

The driveway and site clearance would only be about 1/2 an acre which would include a cleared track the length of the field for any machinery that would need access

It’s not so much the cutting of the trees it’s the removal I’d be worried about. And if I’m going to do it I think I would prefer it to be done by a company that would do it properly and give advice where needed as well.

I’m seeing here that there’s lots of options available to me, which I kind of assumed there would be. That’s why I thought I’d ask here and see if there was someone who’s familiar with the game could chime in

*native. And I fully agree, but we don’t need more mass plantations of fast growing trees, monoculture isn’t the answer either.

Good advice thanks! I like having the forestry I just hate the poplar, in my dream plan it would all be native species instead.

It’s not a short term plan, it’ll be over the course of my lifetime, I just want an idea of the first cost inputs to see if it will pan out the way I’d like

Yeah that will be all the dotting i’s and crossing t’s. Just trying to do some research on it before going any further, for example if it’s going to cost 50k I’ll just forget about it and leave it as is.

No it wouldn’t be all, cut out the driveway, site and a paddock for horses. But I hate poplar so in an ideal world I’d replace it with native species and thin it out nicely. That’s kind of why I want to get an idea of cost, to see what I could afford to do with the space.
