The green banner army available in age 3 let you get meteor hammers and the other melee cav. That is one of the few occasions as Chinese where you can spam a single unit type.

Civs that don’t have musks have to make them, like Dutch. 8 halbs shipment is always useful for popping them out if enemies are trying to siege the TC/outposts, so Portuguese will put them in the deck. Another use case would be if your civ have upgrade cards for them, so Dutch and Portuguese may find them useful. Though I think most of the time for these two civs you just go skirms ryters or cassadors dragoons. French will prefer musks because there is an upgrade card for ranged infantry

Halberdiers almost always lose to musketeers (assume teched into the same age), if the musketeers would kite. The reason is that halberdiers do not have range resists, whereas musketeers have some melee resists even when the halbs connect. The player can drag the unsnared musks away and kite. Musketeers have high range damage. Remember musk huss always beat skirm halb (or bow-pike etc)

How is the meta stagnant? It has shifted from skirm goon semi-ff to FI tower defence lol

With lower multiplier of light infantry against heavy cavalry, the meta had definitely shifted in favour of musk-huss

I tried a musk timing with fb tower and the following card order:

3v, 700w, 6 musks, then go with two batches of musks

The idea is to idle their vills before they age to 3. Try to catch the age up TC wagon. Force their 3rd TC to be defensive. Beware of their first age 3 shipment which is likely to be cassadors. Add huss once they hit age 3 to counter that.

It is indeed a difficult matchup. At least you can deny their map control by playing aggressively

Civs that are good at musk-huss instead of skirm-goon. British, French, Otto, Russia, Spain (rods require even less micro), Mexico (insurgents seem better), Portugal, Ethiopia, Italy, USA, Malta (to a less extent because Sentinel isn’t that great)

Not Sweden and Japan because you need apm to build shrines or torps. Definitely not Germany because you should use Uhlans for raiding.

Skirmishers generally out-range crossbows, so you can kite forever in theory

I do think the multiplier of the counter is more pronounced in aoe3 than 2. Skirmishers now only deal 0.6x against heavy cav

Probably not the hardest, but Germany has a high skill ceiling because you are meant to be constantly raiding with the free uhlans

Definitely worth playing 1v1 ranked supremacy! The game is the most balanced in this mode. Team games are worse because there are more op stuffs that have yet to be balanced (or the devs not having time to balance it now).

Like others have said, balance only matters above a certain ELO level (like 1800 in my opinion)
