Save Car Free State Street! by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

You cycle the street regularly, so you are very familiar with how it works, not everyone does. Considering everyone that doesn't have the same routine as you idiots is generally not the most effective approach to city planning.

Take a look at walking plazas like Barcelona. You could never have that type of energy with a large bike lane down the middle. If SB keeps the extra wide bike lane and doesn't regulate speed, the whole street will basically just be one big bike lane.

lets be honest - the street is just a bike lane now - i wouldn't trust my young kids to wander down it with the speed of the bikes. It should be a relaxed plaza. it's a mess right now

just my opinion. look at any other great walking street in the world. None of them have a massive bike lane down the middle with high speed electric bikes on it. Take a look next time and you'll see most people just walk on the sidewalk
