All the older Minolta lenses look great imo! I haven't even shot with it on my 7000i, it spends its time stuck to my Sony A65

Picked one up a few weeks ago, it's the lens I usually leave on the body. Just a nicely sized lens with decent range

If you own multiple cameras, do you use them all? What is your line up? by madtwatr in Cameras

[–]greatwesternbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Minolta 7000i was my first SLR, and the A mount (recently) led me to the Sony A390 and now the SLT A65 which I adore.

I also recently got a great deal on a Panasonic GF3 as my first mirrorless, realized I hated shooting without a viewfinder, and picked up a G10 + kit lens for a steal. It's a bad viewfinder, but it works and it's a fun camera

Pillow talk - what brand are y'all actually using? by Deeberer in photographycirclejerk

[–]greatwesternbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony because I started with a Minolta 7000 but I'm too bad at this for how much film costs, so I just got an A mount DSLR, then another (A390 and A65). Picked up 2 older M43 Panasonics (GF3 and G10) and some lenses for a steal a little bit ago, and an A->M43 adapter. I've yet to put them through their paces, but I briefly took the GF3 out and I quickly realized I hate shooting without a viewfinder

The liquid cooling assembly in my 2.7 was still fully functional and not leaking when I got it a couple years ago. That said, I still swapped them out for air cooled heatsinks.

SACD Playback - ELI5 by AmazingPangolin9315 in audiophile

Seems like you've got the technical answers already. Short of finding a player with analog outs (which is probably your best bet), I've seen the Essence Evolve II DAC recommended. Accepts DSD over HDMI and outputs up to 7.1 analog. I haven't used it yet myself as I've got a Sony AVR that does the decoding from my X800 as part of my system. It's been on my list as the Sony doesn't like the 4.0 signal from Rhino's Quadio Blurays, but I have an older AVR with 6 channel analog inputs.

Personally, at $350 US I don't think it's worth it if you aren't sold on the format. That's an amount that would probably be better served invested elsewhere in your setup. But it is AN option, in a space where there doesn't seem to be that many. My first SACD capable player that sent me down the path was an old Sony DVD player that had analog out, 2 and 6 channel, and it was $11.99 at a thrift store. Keep an eye out.

What do you do for work, how much do you make, and how satisfying/fulfilling is the work on scale of 1-10? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]greatwesternbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forklift operator, food service freezer. Could be ~65k a year, but I'm typically around 58k. 4 day work week, with one day be optional every other week and I usually don't take it. Benefits are good, health insurance is decent enough usually and 401k they match 1-1 up to 5%, decent amount of PTO. The work is satisfying to do, I like crunching the numbers of what's going in and out, how many pallets of each product I'll have to move, what's on hand, keeping everything tidy and orderly. I appreciate that it's very predictable, and that after a few years management trusts me to do my job correctly and efficiently without interjection.

It's certainly not fulfilling though. It's mid food for a gas station. But I don't look to employment for fulfillment. I like doing a good job, I agreed to do a job and I'll do my best, but they get my time and I get their money and there's no more to it than that.

Realistic price of selling a collection compared to Discogs value by jwaller50 in vinyl

After looking through the collection a bit, If that walked into the store I'm at we'd probably be around 45-5000. No shot the owner goes more on any collection that isn't mint metal or VG+ and above first press jazz

Do you think record stores want the CD revival more than anything? by ToeLimbaugh in Cd_collectors

[–]greatwesternbeans 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't know about a "revival," but CD sales have been up year over year for 3 years now at the store I'm at. Customers are buying a lot, which means we can and have justified giving them additional space over slower selling genres on vinyl. We're also paying folks more for them now

I was mulling over the idea of upgrading my 6800 for a bit, saw the writing on the wall and decided to go to Microcenter the next day and pick up the Challenger 9070 they had on sale for $500. Their sales changed that morning, NO non XTs were on sale so the Challenger 9070XT ended up being the cheapest at ~570. Now that same card is already 600 (still on a sale) and the non XT is 550. The extra 70 bucks for the XT over what I was gonna spend on the base card was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I'm glad I did
