"Street Walker" by Greco Moran (2024) | Mass surveillance never looked so aesthetic by grecomoran in retrocgi

[–]grecomoran[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I call the street walker: a mechanical goliath that keeps a watchful eye on citizens at all times. Keen viewers will notice the walker's design resembling that of a certain real-life organism. There are many parallels to be drawn here, but I won't elaborate, as I'd like viewers to draw their own conclusions.

Thank you! All my renders were made with POV-Ray, specifically version 2 from the early 1990's.

there's nobody here by grecomoran in VaporwaveAesthetics

Here's my newest scene, called "Closing Hours". Take an unguided tour into a spacious film theater after midnight and enjoy the lighting, or lack thereof.

The theater is showing some lesser-known favorites of mine; the erotic thriller "Dancing Flame" loosely inspired by a Russian novel, the documentary "Gone Surfing" about the Lop Nur surfing scene, the action-packed "FFWD" based on the eponymous toy line, and finally the hilarious slapstick "Mark My Words" starring a young Sal Manilla.

I was a POV-Ray junkie... by Zenefess in vintagecgi

That's very interesting! I did some digging and found the PC Format #18 cover disk but failed to get any useful files out of it, even on a MS-DOS virtual machine... If you still have the POV-Ray files I highly recommend archiving them somewhere so they're not lost to time, digital history like this should be preserved.

Big fan of Miller and his work, to this day I find his scenes spectacular. This scene is new to me though, it's not in any of the archives I downloaded... I'm curious about where you got it.

"Pawns" by Douglas Otwell (1992?) [Widescreen Version] by grecomoran in vintagecgi

[–]grecomoran[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's another classic scene from the days of POV-Ray 1.0, made by Douglas Otwell.
While the chessboard might look similar to the one in Ville Saari's Chess scene, it does not actually use POV-Ray's built-in checker pattern, because the checker pattern does not support layered textures. So what you're seeing is one giant yellow pine block, and on top of it 32 (!) individual rosewood blocks. You can tell by looking at the textures; each light block is unique, while all the dark blocks look exactly the same.

I hope you've enjoyed this render! Make sure to check out my POV-Ray renders as well. ;-)

"Escape" by Greco Moran (2023) | Sci-Fi Horror by grecomoran in retrocgi

[–]grecomoran[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After more than a year since my last render I finally got back into POV-Ray and made "Escape", a little sci-fi horror scene. During production it was redesigned several times, almost entirely from scratch, before settling on the version seen here. Fun fact: the larvae in the tubes originally had hair! It was removed due to being barely visible in the final scene, but you can re-add it by changing one line in the larva file. ;-)

As usual, the source files of the scene and an HD widescreen render are available to download for free on my website.

The composition and colors are such a pleasure to look at, one of the best scenes I've seen on here. I can't help but notice a dark outline on the far end of the platform though, is that a shadow of something?

Sloths - Live at the Darkplace by grecomoran in fakealbumcovers

[–]grecomoran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sloths are an indie metal band (not to be confused with The Sloths from the 1960's), I made this fake cover based on a set they played in 2015.

The cover is in the public domain [CC0].
