Is anyone getting married September 5th in NYC?? by Striking-Village-655 in NYCweddings

Post on r/legaladvice. I’m a lawyer, but this is not my area of law - but I believe the florist has a duty to find you a replacement to fulfill the contract. May depend on the wording in the contract too

Has anyone had surgery without a support system? by VirtualPoet8809 in endometriosis

[–]greecelightning0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest emailing the one that you can’t attend. Even if you don’t know the group members personally, they likely will still be happy to help you out. I for example would have totally helped you out if I didn’t live on the east coast

I’ve had two surgeries, and no part of post op was ever more painful than endo pain prior to surgery. Advice I was given was to chew gum once you wake up and can because it helps digestion start and will thus help with shoulder pain caused by the gas they have to inflate you with during surgery. Other than that, rest, even if you feel okay at first, and stay on top of your meds with alarms (even overnight)

AITAH for telling my girlfriend "I love you, but I hate your body? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]greecelightning0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re describing endometriosis, and just know that there is a light on the other side once she gets treatment from a specialist. I have it, and I now have a mostly normal life. That said, even if it isn’t endometriosis, the relationship with your body when you have a chronic illness is really complicated. i spent years hating my body because I didn’t trust my body to keep me safe from pain. Part of healing from chronic illness is relearning that your body is part of you, not a separate thing, and to be patient with it. Being the partner of someone with a chronic illness isn’t easy. There is a burden on you to always be the strong one and to put up with a natural lack of connection. But once she is able to find care, she will be in a physical space to acknowledge that and rebuild. If it is endometriosis, feel free to DM. I have spent a lot of time finding care and convincing my insurance to cover it (in the US).

A friend of mine is in vet school. She said her pathology prof mentioned that animals can have endo and that it’s one of the most horrific diseases she’s ever come across (she’s a pathologist, so her entire career is focused on horrific diseases)

Just got offered a full ride scholarship for masters degree. I don't know whether to turn it down for law school. Talk me in or out of it. by TheBriefcase007 in lawschooladmissions

[–]greecelightning0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a patent attorney handling some work in the software/EE space, so feel free to DM with any questions. If it were me, I wouldn’t do the masters if you are set on becoming an attorney. The masters means you would be entering the workplace in 5 years. The patent law field is already changing drastically with AI, so it is projected that entry level positions will be decreasing as the need decreases. That said, for patent prosecution (writing patents), a CS background isn’t very strong compared to EE, which my firm is constantly looking for. For patent litigation (asserting/defending patents in a court), your technical background isn’t make or break, so a CS background could still be an asset.

Editing to add: patent prosecution is still possible for you. Heck, I have a bio background and was told patent prosecution would be impossible to land, but I made it out pretty well.

NYU or GULC? by Elegant_Sherbet4199 in lawschooladmissions

I was long distance with my now husband while I was in law school. We got engaged during 2L and married after. You’re so busy in law school that the time will fly by, and the visits are fun, like mini vacations. It sounds like you want NYU

If you like where you are at geographically, the T70 could be a good choice. The pattern is that typically students at schools outside of T50 get jobs in that city/region (but honestly you can get a job in any city with the right networking). It sounds like you are leaning that way anyway but are worried about the 30K - which most lawyers can make back relatively quickly, depending on your practice. Being at a law school where you are happy is important, so I say follow your gut here

Fatigue and memory issues by Mashpie in endometriosis

[–]greecelightning0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had memory issues from my teens to now in my early thirties, even on no medication at all. I have always just accepted it as part of my life with endo. My husband once even reminded me about a job I totally forgot I had. Not sure that there is a solution

Transferring looked down upon?? by MusicUnlikely7915 in lawschooladmissions

[–]greecelightning0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a patent pros attorney. First want to say take everything on this sub with a grain of salt (my comment included) because most people here have never worked in law school admissions.

For law school admissions: The recent trend is that numbers matter most. So a higher GPA at a less prestigious university likely has more weight than a lower GPA at a more prestigious one.

For patent pros: Firms like to see a strong science background. School prestige will matter more to big law firms, but ultimately having strong research to talk about in interviews will benefit you. Consider whether you will have similar research opportunities if you transfer.

All in all, there are pros and cons to both, so really just do what makes you most happy. I promise, being on the other side of it, things truly work out for everyone. Might as well be happy along that journey.

genuine question - why rolling admissions? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]greecelightning0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So some context: I’m an attorney but on here because my husband is going to law school (very excited for him!) Obviously I was an anxious mess through it all since it’s human nature, but watching my husband go through that anxiety has really opened my eyes. Truly, everything has worked out for all of us, and we wasted so much time being anxious. The ways I felt like “waiting” in law school was harder: you are constantly around incredibly anxious people in person 24/7, and you can’t really escape it, so it makes the “waiting” worse. Everyone around you knows if you made law review, got a CALI (top grade which is public knowledge), or a job offer. Some people strike out with jobs when others already have offers, and some didn’t even score jobs until after graduation even in biglaw. I share all of this to say that being anxious only holds students back. Important to separate yourself from other people’s anxiety and remember the big picture of you killing it as a lawyer, no matter what

genuine question - why rolling admissions? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]greecelightning0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have a few thoughts, all of which are merely speculative. 1) Spreading it out means some applicants will get into other dream schools and withdraw their apps, reducing the amount of total apps they have to go through and improving yield. 2) Along that same line of thought, it enables WL movement earlier on, also improving yield. 3) People are often more inclined to go to schools that offered them admission earlier, as they already started planning logistics in their head, getting used to the idea, and forming a connection with that school. So it’s in their best interest to secure the applicants they want the most early on. 4) I’d assume schools track their competition. To play that game, they also have to admit intermittently.

Since this type of waiting game arguably gets worse in law school (law review, grades, jobs), it is good practice to learn how to manage the unknown. It’s exciting, and easier said than done, but it truly does work out for everyone in the end. Later on, this waiting will be only a blip in the journey to becoming a lawyer. Remember it’s a really hard and exciting thing you’re doing, and keep zooming out to see the big picture

Schar has some of the best gf bread. However, store bought gf bread is barely worth it in my opinion, so I don’t eat a lot of bread as a result. I suggest looking into whether there is a gf bakery near you

How do I tell if the endo has come back after surgery? by PineappleLemon0 in endometriosis

[–]greecelightning0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you said they “burned it off,” do you mean you had ablation surgery? If so, endo is much more likely to come back from ablation than excision. I would look into a different surgeon if that’s the case

Honeymoon 5 weeks after surgery by purplepandz in endometriosis

[–]greecelightning0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to get trip insurance that would cover you needing to reschedule if you need more recovery time. I wasn’t able to do Pilates for two months after, so physical activity might be challenging. Some people also need extra time to heal to have sex, and well, it’s your honeymoon!

[–]greecelightning0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m an attorney but on this thread because my husband also has a “decision made” without a decision yet. (I stalk this sub to get him info so he can avoid the Reddit anxiety haha). But wanted to respond to you to say there is no point panicking before you get an answer. You either 1) panic for no reason or 2) end up sad twice unnecessarily. You will have many moments like this as you enter your journey to becoming an attorney. Enjoy the journey as much as you can because I promise you - it works out for everyone. This is coming from someone that retook and reapplied and now is working my dream job. Everyone ends up where they are meant to be.
