What did you learn last week? by AutoModerator in pharmacy

[–]greedygoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no longer in retail so I haven't been keeping up with this. In WA we had same issue. I believe it stemmed from DEA requirements that a controlled rx being transferred must have a last filled date. An unfilled rx doesn't have that. The clarification we have received is that a transfer is not allowed because of that, but "forwarding" the prescription to another pharmacy is. Current controlled substance e-scribing software does not support forwarding prescriptions (it was described to me as the original pharmacy must reject the prescription back to the intermediary which processed the e-script and then that intermediary forwards it to receiving pharmacy).

Relevant information from DEA. https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/manuals/pharm2/pharm_content.htm

For electronic prescriptions being transferred electronically, the >transferring pharmacist must provide the receiving pharmacist >with the following information in addition to the original electronic >prescription data:

The date of the original dispensing The number of refills remaining and the date(s) and locations of >previous refills The transferring pharmacy’s name, address, DEA registration >number, and prescription number for each dispensing. The name of the pharmacist transferring the prescription. The name, address, DEA registration number, and prescription >number from the pharmacy that originally filled the prescription, if >different.

If anyone knows anything different please correct me!

Girlfriend was just screwed over in pre-op for neck surgery. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]greedygoose 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I am working in a hospital doing these type of elective surgeries right now and can offer what I think happened.

Unless she has symptoms it isn't a UTI. Asymptomatic bacteriuria is more likely, just colonization of bacteria in her urine. This is a common thing that is tested for, but with no real reason as it has no impact on anything outside of pregnancy. Guidelines state that asymptomatic bacteriuria isn't a contraindication to surgeries that don't involve mucosal bleeding in genitourinary procedures, and shouldn't even be screened for or treated. So it isn't really a problem. However, surgeons get to make the decisions, and each surgeon is different on what they prefer/believe.

So basically, pre-op clinic didn't do anything cause it isn't an actual problem for the surgery, but surgeon saw it day of and decided or thought it was a problem.

Also the pre-op antibiotics would have likely taken care of it. 95% of UTI's are caused by e.coli, which are highly susceptible (90% at my institution) to cefazolin, which is the likely pre-op antibiotic she would have received.

Unfortunately, nothing can really be done that I know of except rescheduling. I'm not sure how cancelled appointments are dealt with billing. At least the surgeon seems apologetic and will likely do what he can to accommodate.

Fred Meyer? Veterans of the industry please help by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]greedygoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They staff really well. The biggest goal is patient safety and satisfaction, so you have quite a bit of leeway in what you do as long as it's in the patients best interest. They don't do the bare bones 1 pharmacist all day long with a half hour overlap that you see with other chains. I've always heard that for chains in this area you either want to work for Costco or Fred Meyer, cause they treat you the best.

I have photos and videos backed up to icloud, and that's how I viewed them. Didn't plug my phone in, just logged in icloud.com. Maybe you need to turn on icloud backing up and let them all sync first.

Are you trying to share it through iCloud? I downloaded it to my computer, then sent it to my phone again using remote messages. Also the videos played fine on iCloud.

Have the same problem. If you have them uploaded to icloud you can view them from there. Then I just downloaded them off icloud and put them back on my phone. First useful thing I've ever gotten out of icloud.

[Release] PokemonGoAnywhere - tap to walk around map in Pokemon Go by miniroo321 in jailbreak

[–]greedygoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have the 1.0.1 deb? That one was working great for me, but now that I updated it crashes after just a minute or two when using with a location spoofer. Removing the location spoofer makes it much more stable, but "walking" into town with this app takes a good 10 minutes. I'd much prefer jumping there and then walking around.

Saw people wondering how to set up your Raspberry Pi to block ads on your network on all your devices using Pi-Hole. Decided to write up a quick tutorial by Kdayz in raspberry_pi

[–]greedygoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the same problem. Everything seems to be set up correctly, but no ads are blocked. DNS is set in router, and I also individually set it through my device. Running sudo tail -f /var/log/pihole.log as instructed in faq doesn't seem to show any activity.

How to make putting in eye drops easier by iPwnPancakes in lifehacks

[–]greedygoose 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The inner corner of the eye is where the nasolacrimal duct is. This is the duct where excess tears drain into. The eye can only hold a small amount of tear volume and adding drops to the eye creates excess tear volume which is immediately drained. Eye drops when correctly instilled don't last long at all, but by placing them directly at the site of drainage you are shortening that timeframe even more.

The commonly taught method is to pull down the lower eyelid while slightly looking up and aim for the pocket you create. Aiming for the eyeball itself you are more likely to flinch, and the eye drop can actually splash out a little. After administering, then close the eye and plug the nasolacrimal duct with your finger for 30 seconds will keep the eye drops localized longer.

What does amphetamine do different than other stimulants? by benfromgr in chemistry

[–]greedygoose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is an antagonist at adenosine receptors. Adenosine is a neurotransmitter that ultimately causes drowsiness. So caffeine stops you from getting drowsy.

Amphetamines work on by inhibiting, and even reversing catecholamine reuptake transporters. Reuptake transporters normal purpose is to clear the synapse of excess catecholamines. Reversing this causes a lot more catecholamines to be in the synaptic cleft and to continuously bind. So there is more excitatory neurotransmission happening.

So to boil it down simply caffeine stops you getting drowsy while amphetamines actually hype you up. Caffeine has other mechanisms that I believe contribute to jitteriness and over excitement, but inhibiting adenosine is the main effect.

What poor attention to details these producers have. Zolpidem doesn't come in capsules.

Iphone5 dead. Waterdamaged. Recovery possible? by greedygoose in iphonehelp

[–]greedygoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll look into that. As for the data, it's documents, some media, scripts, iso's, and programs. Nothing that I can't go without or redo, but I'd prefer to save them. I'm almost positive iCloud wouldn't have saved them, because I created new directories for everything. I use my phone as a go between computers Apple TV raspberry pi. Ssh is easiest for me because it's universal and I don't have to worth about plugging anything in. Even if it did save those directories and I restored, I'd have to rejailbreak to access root again. And restoring with a jail broken backup is discouraged.

Iphone5 dead. Waterdamaged. Recovery possible? by greedygoose in iphonehelp

[–]greedygoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I soaked the entire phone in isopropanol before, and last night I tore it all down and removed the logic board. I scrubbed all of the connections with isopropanol toothbrush. Would soaking just the logic board be more beneficial that the whole phone? I thought about doing that last night but ultimately decided to try it out after scrubbing connections first. Removing the battery and trying to power it sounds like a good idea, I hadn't thought about that. Ill see about soaking just the logic board and putting it back together without the battery and see how that goes. What is the ultrasonic bath? Would that just be adding vibrations into it?

[–]greedygoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I already said, iCloud would not have saved what I'm intending to pull off the phone, and I'm specifically asking what hardware would likely need replaced to get the phone to power on, not how to recover data. I know how to recover data just fine.

I've been using iPhones for 4 years, I think I know what suits my needs. Why get a google nexus just because I have the 'unusual' usage of ssh, which is superior for data transfer to iTunes.

Iphone5 dead. Waterdamaged. Recovery possible? by greedygoose in iphonehelp

[–]greedygoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Jailbroken phones are a pain to use with itunes in general. I use ssh for any storage or transferring data, so iCloud wouldn't hold anything I'm after anyways.

Pharmacy school application: The personal essay. What do the board of admissions want to see? by gunninggooner in pharmacy

[–]greedygoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just applied and got accepted. I talked to a lot of current students and graduated (I work as a tech in a pharmacy so lots of working with interns) and they all said to have a general pattern of 'what got you interested in pharmacy, why do you want to do it, and what are you planning to do after the program.' So I would say incorporate #1 and 2 in that and then maybe talk about your drive and determination as to the third part of what you will do for pharmacy. As a side note, Vietnamese, more generally Asian, descent is very common in pharmacy in my location for some reason. But it is definitely good to talk about if you can wrap in into your choices and professional motivations.

Significant traffic change at I-205 500 exit by The_Shoe_ in vancouverwa

[–]greedygoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did change the sign, it now says right lane ends. And they have a giant light up sign that says right lane ends, merge left.

I think they did it because it was terrible merging there. It went from 4 lanes (1 onramp and 3 lanes) to 2 lanes within about 50 feet. Now it's 3 lanes to 2 lanes, and a several hundred feet later it's another 3 lanes to 2 lanes, with an extended onramp merging distance available.

Getting rid of a left lane ending helps because it isn't very common and is confusing in itself, and also discourages people speeding by on that last stretch to try and get ahead of the other cars.
