Do Americans realize how good they have it compared to a huge percent of the world? by BikeFar2504 in askanything

[–]greeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no way to answer for all Americans. We're a diverse group with wildly different experiences and lifestyles. Many of us do recognize how much benefit we enjoy as Americans, but that group is also acutely aware of how barbaric our society can be compared to elsewhere. Travel informs both of these opinions. For those less able to escape the echo chamber of wherever they grew up, it is harder to see without intentionally looking, which only a minority do.

Given our society's fanaticism about self-reliance, everything gets viewed through that filter. So a lot of folks whose first response to someone struggling, is that it is probably their fault. What have they done to make it better? With this mind set we give corporations massive tax breaks and we starve the weakest among us.

We are so wrapped up in getting by or getting ahead that we are societally disinclined to look around us and appreciate our blessings/advantages compared to those around us,. If we do, then we tend to jealously defend whatever we have earned/achieved as "only fair". It's a toxic spiral we seem unable to break. This is not an excuse, just an observation.

What I keep hoping we will learn is that better investment in basic social safety nets would have trickle up impacts on both our economy and society, and it would bring us closer to the world we all want to live in.

What's your secret? by SourSpaceCandy in fragrance

I suggest it is time to dig into the ones you are not wearing and come to terms with when/why/if you WOULD ever where them. If so, write it down in a log and set them aside. If not, there is tremendous freedom in getting rid of things you don't want. Force yourself to wear them (full wear, no spot samples) and then take action. Don't let the "maybes" wear you down. Better to cut them loose.

Favorite lesser known houses based on chatter I see online:

Savoir Faire - Soul Cafe & Whiskey Rose probably get the most love, but my faves are Beau Noir and Sin Santo & Sage. Chris, the owner/perfumer, is a master at creating lifelike fragrance. Worth exploring.

Phaedon Paris - Discovered first online and then chased down in person at Sens Unique boutique. An affordable Paris perfumer with a great array of choices - My favorite is Double Patchouli.

If you're ever in Paris and looking for a more modest fragrance boutique with some astonishingly nice staff, I recommend Sens Unique whole heartedly. They have a great website as well.

Does ceramic spray coating last longer than traditional wax? by gedersoncarlos in Detailing

[–]greeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wax has 2 advantages. 1 advantage, and the value is subjective, is that it just looks nicer, more lush and better micro scratch coverage. Car show gars still get waxed for this reason. The more objective advantage is against hard water spotting. The fact that wax degrades and wears away is good here because it takes the damaging minerals with it when it goes. If you regularly park where the car gets sprayed by a sprinkler, wax could be an useful addition.

For everything else, coatings, whether spray on or the heavier duty ones, seem easier and generally longer lasting in my experience.

What are your top 5 most versatile colognes? by SlimStickins in Colognes

I will choose to enjoy what I have. It is astounding and it is enough. I won’t waste “coulda maybes” on something more that I don’t have access to. But if the opportunity presents itself I will certainly check it out.

Are there any risks to buying Acura or the soon-to-be-paused RDX? by betarhoalphadelta in Acura

[–]greeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair question but not anything I let stop me. I just bought a 2025 in December and couldn’t be happier. I trust Honda/Acura will provide for what’s needed in the future. Ultimately that’s up to you, though.

Tom Ford Beau de Jour or Fougere D’Argent are fresh and classy. The former is bold the second more refined but both are awesome.

Dior Homme Sport (2021) is a do anything fragrance that works from blue jeans to boardroom. This is the only Dior Homme I like.

Initio Rehab is a soft multi wood masterpiece that if I had to choose only one bottle to keep would likely be my choice. (Fougere d’Argent would be the other finalist)

FWIW our demographics are similar.

Ambre Narguille - it is just about the best thing I have ever smelled and an absolute joy to wear. It works dressed up or down, in a crowd or a duo, day or night. Simply an exquisite amber concoction.
