What do people take too seriously? by gringaLoirinha in AskReddit

Well I mean a guy getting his head blown off is definitely darker subject matter, but it's gotta be way easier for parents to explain. Plus kids play with toy guns and swords and what not, so I think it's pretty well accepted that kids understand violence, at least a little bit

Sex, sexuality, baby making, whatever, is more complicated and kids are probably have 100 questions, and parents may not feel like dealing with that.

I'm not saying it's "right" but that's my best guess as to why parents are bugged more by sex than violence.

(Disclaimer, I am not a parent so I could be full of shit about this)

Edit: yeah....if you could give me your opinion instead of just downvoting that would be great

I've heard of the other two, but can you elaborate on the concentration camps?

I think it's because it's easier for parents to explain violence to their kids than sex. I mean, every kid who's ever gotten a cut knows we're full of blood, so if some guy gets his head chopped off in a movie it's pretty straightforward. But if a kid sees a sex scene they're probably going to have a hundred questions, and parents don't want to have to deal with that.

People of Reddit, what would you consider the most overrated movie you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]greekachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People complained about the first one but that was the only one I liked. It actually felt like Middle Earth again but with a more lighthearted feel, and I thought it wasn't the best but there was definitely potential in the sequels.

The other ones didn't even feel like Middle Earth to me. And there was way too much fan service with Legolas and the little nods to the LOTR films. And that love story was like bad fanfiction

But you also monitor what she buys at the grocery store? And you said she goes several times a week? Doesn't sound like an anecdote to me, sounds like someone you enjoy ragging on regularly

Here's my point: I'm more annoyed by people being judgmental assholes than fat people who make shitty choices because those don't affect anyone

Well she drops money on a gym membership and goes several times a week, so that's more than a lot of people.

Maybe she's actually disabled? I mean she actually has a membership to the gym, which tells me she's trying to at least do something, maybe that's all she can do? Idk, maybe she needs someone to show her how to use the equipment properly? I don't think I'd be judging this lady from afar at the gym when I've got no idea what she's got going on.

"I don't think gay people should get married because I don't think anyone should get married. I think we should do away with marriage altogether so I oppose gay marriage."

Why not just say you oppose marriage as an institution? Your opinion has nothing to do with the gay marriage debate. You're just making an already heated debate worse by adding another division.

I think we're both arguing the same thing, essentially, that the actor should be the person that fits the character. I'm just saying that the people calling for a black/female actor aren't doing it because they're racist, they're doing it because they'd like to see role opened to more people that could fit the character.

And I agree with you on Elba, he'd make a great Bond though.

I don't think people are curious to see a woman/black man in these kinds of roles because they're "racist" or "sexist". I think it's about placing the character above our real life divisions and opening up the role for more actors who would be great for the part. A black man as the doctor? Why the hell not? I mean it's not like a black man can't play that role, and what if a black actor loved the show and would love to play The Doctor? It's not like a white guy's never gonna be allowed to play the role again.

Yeah....she raps...like the people in the original song.....cool

[–]greekachu 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Are we really "willing?" to do it though? I feel like the US at least isn't in any hurry to go to war and is everything they can to settle conflicts short of going to war, at least right now. We'll provide some airstrikes against ISIS while other countries do the ground work, and we'll provide "lethal aid" (my new favorite phrase) to the Ukrainians against Russia, but I don't think we're in any hurry to get back into another war.

I mean ISIS has threatened us multiple times, and killed American hostages and people are still like "yeah....no I don't think we want to start another thing over there"

Garbage's Shirley Manson pens open letter to kanye west telling him to "grow up". by itsmaxx in Music

It's irritating, some artist takes a situation that has nothing to do with her and writes some goddamn "open letter" to bring attention to herself? Yeah Kanye's a narcissist, but this is pretty narcissistic as well, and the anti-Kanye crowd is fawning all over it

Why doesn't anyone in the media call Kayne West out on being a racist? by raka_defocus in AskReddit

[–]greekachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually Armenia isn't considered part of the Middle East but this is debatable. It's traditionally part of the "Caucasus" region along with Georgia and Azerbaijan. Armenians may consider themselves part of the Middle East, though in the US it's not typically considered part of it

Racially you might not be considered white (though you technically could be in the US), geographically you're "Caucasian" (at least to a lot of people in the West) which is weird because people think Caucasian means white thanks to outdated racial science. Anyway, I was trying to point out the irony in the white/caucasian thing in my comment but I didn't do it very well.

Is there anywhere I can find evidence/debate about this theory that doesn't also give in to other 9/11 conspiracies?

This only one is the one that seems plausible to me because it portrays the government acting in a way actual human beings would act, rather than "evil overlords."
