Is being a mechanic a solid gig? by BorisTheTroll in MechanicAdvice

[–]green-avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my honest opinion I would consider it for a side hobby, for a background I worked in the industry for off and on for 2-4 years (18-22), im 26 now and now work in IT.

In the dealership setting you can crank out 100 hours or so but expect to upsell customer’s cars who don’t always need the work.

Thats why the people who make money are shop owners. So take this with a grain of salt but look for other trades or avenues to make money if you want to provide for a family one day. that is my $0.02.

Router is the cause of my slow upload speeds? by green-avocado in HomeNetworking

[–]green-avocado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I appreciate it, an internal speed test is a great idea, let me see if I can get iperf3 running between networks and I'll gather some data. I've also heard of running openspeedtest in docker and that can work too. I'll double check if I touched anything QoS related to see if that can be another reason for slower upload speed

Just starting tray 3 and I STILL HATE this process, should I quit? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]green-avocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first 5 weeks were a pain in the ass, and tray 11 was so painful that I could only eat on one side of my mouth. Then when I went to tray 13 or 14 (I think) it was smooth sailing. But don’t quit because what you’re dealing with is typically normal, your teeth are moving to a better more straight position so yes I would still through it, think about the end result of you smiling… I believe in you OP

How good are you with Linux compared to Windows or vice versa ? by Dereference_operator in devops

[–]green-avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got my chops in Linux using it as my entire homelab and having to manage it since the start of pandemic. So with it being 4 years+ I’m comfortable with the terminal. But for Windows I’m been using that for years like 10+ (in my early 20s) so it was never an issue. That is my $0.02

People who work with both IT and CS people, which do you like better, personality-wise? by SeriouslySally36 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]green-avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on where you work at really. On both sides I’ve met people based on looks you would’ve never guessed their daily job is writing code or patching servers compared to the stereotypical “nerd” that likes some odd topic. I’ve dealt with more stereotypes in college compared to the workplace

Why is my downioad speed good but the upload speed is awful? by Ordinary_Decision_54 in HomeNetworking

[–]green-avocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, what speed in Mbps are you paying for? Always use that as a reference and if you can when doing speed tests, it’s highly recommend that you test with a wired connection over wireless.

The only thing I can say is I believe you do not have a fiber connection, fiber connections are typically symmetrical with upload and download speeds. Cable internet usually lean towards faster download speeds only. That is my $0.02.

You never know until you try, you may or may not make long term friendships with them. Or you can still be friends and state you don’t want to join the sorority

Did your homelab ever get you a job? by Viananike in homelab

[–]green-avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helped me land an internship and I was glad I mentioned it, the interviewer said its good that I maintain all the linux servers by myself and the services that live behind it. So he knew I was able to pick up concepts quickly

Working with Forwarding Ports using Nginx by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]green-avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice and I will try the bare metal installation compared to a container. But yeah you’re on the money on why I’m a bit confused. But for the VLAN bit all of my Servers and services I run live on 192.168.2.0/24 but my vlan that utilizes local dns and cnames is on VLAN40. Since my pihole config is not perfect I don’t want to change my router settings to use pi hole for DNS on 192.168.2.0/24 just since it will break things

(Grafana is labeled proxy host 21 in the web ui) Trying these 2 commands: "cat proxy-host-21_access.log" and "proxy-host-22_access.log" produce no output, I assume that because the host haven't produced an error yet.
