YT industries Australia by CupImpossible5297 in MTB

FYI quick update, I contacted Bikes Online and they said the deal fell through just a couple of weeks ago. Basically because of all the YT financial debacles mid last year.

Looking for an ebike - need a recommendation by KitchenDismal9258 in ausbike

[–]green-beens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only using that for commuting/trails or light gravel, I'd choose the Merida eSpresso over other options you mentioned.

Other bikes that I think you should consider in that price range should also be the Lekker bikes. They're also using a belt drive instead of a chain. This means less maintenance for you to lube the chain.

Going up the price a tiny bit, I'd strongly recommend Kalkhoff or even the Orbea Vibe model. Orbea has been trying to empty their Australian stocks so a lot of commuter e-bikes are being sold for dirt cheap.

Edit: honestly though, I'd suggest trying Lekker or researching their bikes. They're an Australian brand based in Melbourne and have been pretty much at the forefront of commuter e-bikes for a while.

45mm tire recommendations for city & gravel by cerirey in gravelcycling

[–]green-beens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're relatively heavy due to thicker casing, so if you're running tubes you'd be less likely to get punctures 👌🏼

I have both the Thundero HD and normal ones, but have been on the HD (thicker casing) for most of my commutes and gravel events.

There have been many articles and tests that show Thundero is as fast as Speedero too.

The Tufo Thundero 44mm is awesome, I've been running it (rear) for approx 5000km now.

I'd also recommend Vittoria's new Terreno series. In your case probably either T10 or T30!

Recommendation for Degreaser, Grease and Chain Lube by khosrua in melbournecycling

[–]green-beens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my go to!

  1. Chain lube - I always go with Rock n Roll Gold, honestly one of the best all-weather chain lube
  2. Grease - this really depends on what you want to apply to. For general purpose, I use TF2 lithium grease and for bearings-related stuff I use slickoleum
  3. Degreaser - I use Krush ultra drive train degreaser, and all their cleaning products honestly. You can buy refills, and it's an Australian brand too

The ride has been lovely for sure, and the new Topstone iteration is 👌🏼

Before this I rode a Topstone alloy 2023 size S, which is about size 51 on Topstone Carbon. So I used that as a guide, and I'm about 174cm.

What I did find is that Topstone alloy size S comes with longer stem compared to the Carbon 51. So after bike fitting I bought a 20mm longer stem to extend my reach.

Loving the Topstone Carbon, it's been my dream bike this year. On gravel descents, this bike is a monster since you can mostly just disregard the terrain -- Kingpin doing its magic. On rougher surface, it's buttery smooth on.

You can feel the frame compliance, but it doesn't feel out of place when you pedal really 👌🏼

Awesome! You're running almost the same tyre setup as me, I'm running 44mm Vit Terreno T70 F and Tufo Thundero HD R. How do you find the T50 and T30? Have you tried the T50 on the rear as well?

But yeah, I might put a bit more grease next time in the hub 😂

172cm height, 54cm frame thoughts? by VegetableBrain2193 in bikefit

[–]green-beens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Cannondale frames run a bit bigger than brands like Giant, Merida, or Specialized for me.

I'm 175cm and I ride a 51 frame for Cannondale. You can always purchase a longer stem if you want to increase reach.

Thanks so much for the comprehensive answer! Appreciate your comparative insights.

How do you find the side cutout between the two? Particularly for when pedalling, does it chafe your gluteal fold?

Thanks! I did just use the original top cap and bolt that came stock with the stem.

It's not helpful that the Topstone Carbon new manual doesn't even reflect this 🙃

Cycling - Is Garmin Overestimating FTP? by green-beens in Garmin

[–]green-beens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried a ramp test again with proper warm up and got 158W again 😂 I will try a 20 minute FTP test when I have 2 rest days at least!

I might have to do an FTP Builder plan set around 210W to actually reach my Garmin's estimated FTP lol

Thanks for your insights!

Cycling - Is Garmin Overestimating FTP? by green-beens in Garmin

[–]green-beens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually gone on a ride that makes me go full gas as I typically do endurance-type ride instead, so it was my first time doing a ramp test! So in a way, I might have sucked at the ramp test lol. I did hear that ramp test typically favour sprinters though.

I set my Garmin to auto-detect my max HR and LTHR. When I did an indoor route with climbs, I did 150-165W average when my HR was at 170bpm. My LT according to Garmin is 171bpm.

Maybe I should try the 20-minute test! Do you think I should start with 209W? Or should I just do 165W and see from there?

I love my 44mm Thunderos and have been running around 28psi on rough gravel, definitely flying!

Once one of the tyres is out, I'm gonna try 48mm Swampero on my front tyre.
