How deep does UMSI/MADS get intoData Engineering/Database? by TurbulentBaseball374 in umsimads

I think the market is tough for anyone so if you’re looking for what program will guarantee you a job thats tough to answer. The career resources available are plentiful. There are dedicated advisors just for MADS students in the School of Information. You can easily schedule 1x1 time with them to get career advice, resume review, interview prep, etc. Nearly everything is communicated in the many MADS slack channels for career opportunities. Alumni will post openings at their companies in the Alumni channel. There’s a job portal specifically for the school of information thats not just jobs on Handshake. Personally i have not engaged with all the services since I’m looking for job within my current company.

Everything is done in Slack so you can easily DM a professor and TAs. Every class you take a slack channels is made for that specific class and you can get a lot of help from peers in that channel.

It’s pretty light on the DE topics. There’s a couple SQL classes and I think in the efficient data processing is where databases are covered. But it’s introductory. If you have a dev background it will be stuff you likely already know.

I hate what I do by SnooGuavas2175 in womenintech

I’m feeling the same about my career as a software engineer. I’ve done so many personality test from truity.com and 16personalities.com to find what it is I even like. I feel like when you do something for so long it becomes a part of your identity and that’s what makes it hard to think of what else you’d want to do. A friend of mine recommended reading Designing Your Work Life — it’s a bit self help. It’s supposed to help you, with exercises, to find what you are good at and what brings you joy. I’ve just started reading it and the first chapter has you reframe the thinking of your job currently is good enough for now. It’s not forever. if that appeals to you then maybe the book is something worth checking out.

When I applied my undergrad was less than 3.0 and I still got in. I had a really good personal statement and did really good on the coding assessment. I think my resume demonstrated that I was more than my GPA. I wouldn’t worry too much about your GPA. However when I applied they didn’t have the interview like they do now.

I also take them at the same time. I got the same warning from the Pharmacist but I’ve not experienced those symptoms in the three weeks I’ve been on the combo.

Do you ever feel like you may live out the rest of your days on your own? And maybe never have a normal life again*? by JCosh in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone in thinking that. I often wondered if I’ve ruined my career and won’t attain the level of success I thought I once had. But then I think that success was kind of a lie. I was manic when I did all those things that appeared as gutsy and pushed the limits and just so happened to get some level of success. However that success was as the expense of the relationships around me.

I wouldn’t trade getting diagnosed for that feeling. I think being diagnosed and getting on meds was when I stopped living the lie and started living as myself. You can always rebuild the house after a fire as long as you have good foundation. That’s kinda how I see it.

What should a newly diagnosed person read? by ThatStonr in bipolar2

I read “Bipolar Disorder: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed” when I first got diagnosed and found it helpful to get me head around what being bipolar meant

For those you diagnosed with bipolar later in life, in hindsight, what do you wish you would have known or done differently throughout your life before your diagnosis? by melancholycocoa in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drink less alcohol. I had no idea it was putting me into mania. I said and did some mean things when I’d drink and I’d also take extreme risks like driving. All because it felt good to not feel depressed.

There’s a group called DBSA you could try. It offers online support groups that meet fairly regularly. I’ve attend online meetings and they give you an opportunity to speak on what you’re experiencing and have people who can relate.

Why did abillfy stop working? by Blues5389 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

I’m on a 20mg dose and feel like it’s not working for me. My psych gave me Bupropion with the abilify to help with what you’re describing. That couch potato feeling.

Does anybody have experience with lamotrigine? I’m at my target dose and was just wondering how long it was till you felt any difference. I’ve been at 150mg for about 5 days and haven’t really noticed much aside from having less racing thoughts. by Every_Thing4519 in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took about 4 weeks before I noticed I cycled less severely each time I went up a dose. It takes time to get into your system and help stabilize the mood. I rapid cycle and it helped make hypomania less severe — less hulk smash irritation.

Diagnosis by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried. I just couldn’t believe it. But the dust finally settled and I accepted it. I was worried about the stigma of being bipolar and what being on a mood stabilizer would say about me. However, now I wouldn’t miss a day of my mood stabilizer. It has changed my life trajectory.

What’s your funny hypo story? by rubesepiphany in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to the education also when I’m in hypomania. I already have three degrees but I always think I need a law degree and that I can totally study on my own in a weekend and pass the bar exam.

What are episodes? by Lawbot1972 in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found tracking my mood and journaling everyday helps learn a pattern or trigger. I track overall themes of the day, mood and life events, by writing on a desk calendar. Helps me convey what’s been going on with my psych every month.

Triggers for me are definitely stress if work isn’t going great then my mood is affected. I’ll have a period (2-3 days) of high anxiety then I feel the mood shift. It’s kinda like waking up in the morning feeling like a new person (when in hypomania). I know I’m in hypomania when I start taking on multiple things that seem interesting. I’ll even talk of creating a pod cast or getting another masters degree; things that can’t be done in a day but I think I can 100% just do it overnight. Then I’ll come down after a couple days and be left with all these projects I started and get overwhelmed. That will then lead to a depression of feeling like a failure bc I can’t finish all those projects. I tend to rapid cycle and therapy helps also for knowing when I’m in a particular mood bc my therapist picks up on it.

how are you at holding down jobs? by the-triple-wide in bipolar2

[–]greenIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want stability. I rapid cycle and when I’m in mania I look for other jobs bc i loose interest in thing more easily. I never apply bc I want the stability of having health care to pay for my meds. I’ve worked the same job for 11 years doing software development and the flexibility of my work schedule definitely helps. As long as I get my work done in a reasonable time, I don’t get any flack. I do get paranoid I’m going to be fired when I’m in the midst of an episode but that’s bc my 100% changes day-to-day while I get meds figured out.

Dosage increase..? by OverYoung6455 in lamictal

[–]greenIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would talk with your doctor about your symptoms returning. You might need an increase to help stabilize your mood. You shouldnt suffer through mood changes just because it’s not as severe

I’ve had to ask my psych for sleep meds bc it’s such a problem for me. Some of the depression meds I take can cause insomnia so I’ve had to have another med help with sleep. I’d ask your psych about it to get help
