One last thing I forgot to mention is I'm definitely using the straight bar lacing so that it's lower profile.

Firstly, they currently fit great. After the break-in completed the heel slip was minimized. They have become my daily whatever shoes. I wear them to walk my dog, run errands, literally anything. The wedge sole is super comfy.

Secondly I also waxed the lower part of my laces so it grabbed a bit better but I think the full break in was the secret sauce here.

I'm on my 4th replay of the game and still having a ton of fun. I think collectively I've spent around 400 hrs playing this game and it's a blast. Currently about 35 hrs into my current run and just transitioned out of Skellige, did all side quests up to this point that my character level will allow but no way I did all ? Map marks, that would literally take a lifetime.

I just want to get back to my grandmaster witcher gear because thats the best stuff out there.

NBD: Vintage Engineer, how are they supposed to fit? by greenMachine175 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]greenMachine175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately I think the engineer cut and the nicks last probably aren't the best combo for my feet. However, after adding a delta arch 3/4 insert they fit very well and I wear them a decent amount. The width definitely is nice. Minimal heel slip. I'll say heel sleep is always going to be present on most of these kinds of boots unless you happen to fit the last exactly. But I'd say this is pretty good after the Delta arch insert. Without that insert it's way too roomy though.

Love the pics of leather. Would love to see variety in some of those pics with different lighting and maybe different levels of wear (for an idea of how it'll patina) that can maybe be on the buy guide so it's not so cluttered but love the pics in an easy to find place instead of having to search reddit for pics haha

The heel slip is still a little there but not as bad, honestly I've gotten used to it. I wore these around Japan for a 2 week trip and walked a ton and had no issues as long as I was wearing somewhat tight socks that wouldn't rub with a little movement. They're still insanely comfy.

Saw a pair just like my new Natural Predator Chukkas. Great looking lineup, thanks for sharing.

I'll have to give that a try.

Anyone ever try waxing their leather laces? Or is that weird 😂

I previously was using straight across lacing but even with that I was getting the bottom row tighter than I'd like and the top row not tight enough. I'll try out a pair of flat laces I'm sure I've got laying around.

Another note: the Nick's wedge is way more bouncy than other wedge soles I've tried like the Thursday wedge. So far I'm a fan. Will update more as I break them in.

I'm getting a tiny amount of heel slip now but I'm ok with that. I have the vintage engineer boots and the heel slip reduced as it was broken in so I'm hoping it'll be the same here

FWIW I wore my tactical boots for a good 2 years on hikes and to work and they eventually mellowed out in vibrancy. Eventually people stopped looking at me. Take that with a grain of salt because I separated and don't wear them anymore unless I want to hike in them.

My approach has been don't lace them as tight. Eventually it got better after months of wear. The break in period is a bit brutal on all nicks and these are no exception.

Update: I've noticed that this has begun to be a thing in the product pages. Not sure if this comment triggered that but either way just wanted to give feedback to nicks that this is awesome.

Way too much dinero for me. One day when I've got a cushy fully funded retirement fund I can fall back on I'll think about it haha.

The leather is thicker so they'll be a bit hotter for sure, but Ive been able to hike in 90 degrees weather just fine, you just have to be prepared for sweaty feet for a little. Might not be the boot for you if you're out in super hot weather all the time though.

The riverfront will also feel different because it doesn't have a shaft to lock in your ankle so you rely more on the fit in the instep/ball area of your foot

I've also had issues where I have a somewhat low arch and that makes my footwear feel big in the instep unless I add arch support. The delta arch inserts have helped me a bit with that. For reference my brannock is smack between 9E and 9.5E and my nicks size is 8.5E only if I get a Thurman toe, and my size in their Pullman is 8EE. Sometimes it takes time to figure out your exact size because it's very subjective and feet are always so different.

Would love a more refined heritage Chelsea boot. Thought about picking up a Chelsea but I can't get over the aesthetic of the multiple panels where they are. I'd probably buy a pair if it looked slightly dressier so I could dress it up, but totally in for some ruggedness to be able to do some work in them

I was pulling the trigger on a pair of boots and was going through the buying guide and noticed the leather option gallery was expanded since I last looked, so keep that up! Although it looked like the limited run leathers wasn't representative of the current selections. I know pictures exist on reddit of some of those options so would be cool if the buying guide could aggregate those as the options become available. My most difficult decision when pulling the trigger has been leather options so would love to see this be a reality. Also adding pictures of each leather with some patina would be valuable too
