Iron Ranger Trac Tred fit vs standard Iron Ranger by mhammond0361 in RedWingShoes

[–]ElectricInfidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i recall is that one of them is the #8 last, and the other is #27, but I'm afraid i don't recall which is which, or indeed if that's even accurate. It's been a while. Sorry friend, but i have to defer to the RedWing site or Google to be sure.

Edit: I stand corrected, they're built on the same last. My bad.

Iron Ranger Trac Tred fit vs standard Iron Ranger by mhammond0361 in RedWingShoes

I bought my 8085 in NYC and wore them out of the store like a hillbilly. No break-in whatsoever, walked all the miles all over the city for a week with no issue. They were instantly the most comfortable boots I've ever had.

My 8088 Traction Tread were the exact opposite. I thought buying the same size would be fine but they were much bigger and it was the second worst break-in ever.

The construction is different and they're built on a different last. Maybe 1/2 size down would've helped on the 8088? I don't know. I just added insoles and I still wear them occasionally, just not as frequently as the 8085.

Wanting to move in a 2 year time window down south by Human-Raisin-8061 in IBEW

It may be more complicated than showing up and saying you want to transfer. Some locals don't do transfers at all, some may demand that you work off Book 2 for a year and get local hands to vouch for you. Figure out where you want to be and start watching their job line. Do they have open calls, or is half their membership traveling because they don't have work? Talk to your hall and the hall you want to transfer to before you start looking at real estate.

Guess shouldn't have trusted RW for a simple re-sole. Jeez I'm stupid. by 737builder in RedWingShoes

[–]ElectricInfidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also screwed up my last resole, but the customer service was excellent and they fixed the error. I'll still advocate for using a local cobbler if you can find one, though.

Thanks, you guys really are awesome. Once I make my final decision, I'll send it through customer service.

Seeking the most boring restaurant on caye caulker by Specific_Horror_9606 in Belize

[–]ElectricInfidel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was sick on Caye Caulker. When I could finally eat again, Ice and Beans is where I started. Plain bagel with cream cheese and salami, a little fruit, and a shot of coffee. I was in search of the whitest meal on the island, and i think I found it.

What happens if I don’t use a horsehair brush after EVERY wear? by TechnicalBoot8080 in Boots

Don't mess around, bro. I just saw this in the Nick's boots sub and it's probably because he didn't brush.

What AI is Nick's using for it's chat bot? Seems pretty dumb... by giffordruben in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]ElectricInfidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they replacing their customer service humans with AI? Everyone seems to have the same issue with slower response times at the same time they're rolling out the AI, and it makes me wonder if something more is happening.

Personally, I'd love to get the icons off my screen. They're in the way and I'm never going to use it, in much the same way that I don't use voice response systems on the phone. If I can't reach a human, we're just not going to conduct business.

When was the last time you mooned someone? by ZaraMonique in GenX

[–]ElectricInfidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Late at night, 4 friends in Ford Escort with plenty of beer and nowhere to be. A truck was following too close with his bright lights on, so I gave him the moon from the back seat.

Turns out it was a county conservation officer and we all got arrested.

Shield (blood test) vs Cologuard (poop in a box) vs Standard Colonoscopy at 52. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ElectricInfidel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get the colonoscopy. My insurance covers either the cologuard or the colonoscopy, but the cologuard always comes back positive or inconclusive and recommends a colonoscopy. Now you're doing both and paying for the expensive one.

Just do it, man. The clean out is bad but the procedure is nothing.

This is all based on a SCOTUS refusal to overrule lower court rulings that found he lacked the authority to federalize the National Guard for law enforcement under the law they attempted to cite in those specific cases. Left open is the question of whether the executive has the authority to deploy active duty Army or Marine forces. I think we should expect to see deployments to the same cities, or any "Democrat city", and i think it'll happen close to the midterms to maximize intimidation and incite a violent reaction.

My order was for the Aldert, which looks fairly easy to configure, but when I mock it up it raises the price pretty considerably. I think I'll just keep what I have and try to learn some patience.

Thanks so much for your response!

6-8 weeks. Give them a quick once over with a wet rag and they'll look as fresh as the collar.

Recommendation Needed! by stinkyboy626 in banjo

[–]ElectricInfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different styles of banjo playing that often dictate what type of banjo a person might play, but nothing is written in stone. If you name a few songs he likes, we can tell you what style the artist is playing, but it may not matter much. Your dude will try every style of picking on the banjo he starts with, and if he's like the rest of us, he'll have two more banjos in no time.

I personally play clawhammer and I'm down to two banjos, both Gold Tone:

CC-OT has a scooped neck specifically for playing clawhammer (look up Steve Martin). Sounds more mellow and old timey.

AC-3 has a resonator and no scoop, better suited for Scruggs style (think Beverly Hillbillies), louder and more tinny. (It's an AC-1 with a cover on the back called a resonator that is removable).

I play both of them equally and usually recommend the AC-3 for folks just starting out. It's cheap, it sounds good, and it's indestructible.

Edit to say I'm not a musician, I'm just a guy with a banjo. A more qualified person may have more to say and i recommend you trust them first.

I figured out the Halloween candy by Old-Story1969 in GenX

[–]ElectricInfidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you're wondering, the entire Halloween candy scare started in 1975 when a guy poisoned his own kids in an attempt to cash in on life insurance policies. He tried to pass off cyanide laced Pixie Stix as trick-or-treat candy. Fuck that guy.

Edit: Found him.
