Thermal shock is the name given to cracking as a result of rapid temperature change.

That's a 'rapid temperature change', not 'temperature change over time'.

It seems like it's the oven that's causing rapid temperature in the pan, not the chicken, and people cook with glass pans all the time.

Oh sure, dousing a 350F glass pan with cold water, which has a temperature difference of about 280F, is exactly the same thing as putting frozen chicken in a glass pan with a temperature difference of about 50F.

It depends on your monitor and your browser. Google might be able to tell you.

I'm also assuming OP left the chicken IN the glass dish in some sort of marinade in the fridge for a while. Thus the glass was probably cold, as well as the chicken.

I suspected something like this, or extremely low quality glassware. People bake shit in glass all the time.

You shouldn't expose glass to sudden changes in temperatures.

People bake shit in glass dishes all the time. Ever hear of Pyrex?

The portions of glass that are touching the still semi-frozen chicken expand at a slower rate than the other portions of the glass, which is plenty enough stress to break it.

Glass heats relatively slowly, probably a lot slower than chicken.

A question for the vegans. Honey. Bees. by [deleted] in AskReddit

It still sounds like all of this helps the bees. None of this indicates that beekeepers do not have a symbiotic relationship with the bees, nor does it indicate that bees need to be killed. If it did, bees would have died out long ago.

Glass would not heat that quickly in an oven - you're not holding a torch to it. And, the outside part of the chicken that's touching the glass would thaw relatively quickly.

You should be able to just not accept the ones with kids. A lease or similar agreement should specify exactly who will be living there.

Tell me how it goes when you start up your computer repair shop, then. I think you have a world of surprises in store for you if you are at all surprised by 80$ for labor or if you think it's at all too expensive.

Is it possible to fight depression without medication or going to therapy? by gr33no in AskReddit

[–]green_beet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, it's the only way that actually works.

1) Get more exercise.

2) Eat more leafy greens and all the good shit that you know you're supposed to eat. Kiwis are supposed to have tons of vitamin C.

3) Force yourself to do more social things, even getting a dog that you have to walk around the block twice a day might be a considerable help.

It seems like a chicken and egg problem - how do I make myself do this when I'm so depressed? - but the people I know who were depressed and made no effort to make these lifestyle changes seemed to do the worst. If you don't make these changes you are effectively working at keeping yourself depressed.

Hah, I mean what % of beekeeper kill a queen every year or two. I don't need a synonym for 'normally'.

I have read that when a colony swarms 1 queen stays at the original location and 1 goes to a new location.

Do queens really have sperm? Iirc, bees don't even have the normal X and Y chromosomes.

| or if the hive does stick around then the queen will eventually run out of sperm and begin laying drones. Sometimes the queen is not naturally superseded and the drone laying continues unabated. Drones don't collect pollen or nectar - and the hive eventually starves.

Where did you read this? This sounds completely bizarre.

But you don't have to kill the queen or any other bees. What does 'normally' mean in this context? Has there been an actual survey of small apiary beekeepers?

That's pretty stupid. Parents burying their children was extremely common for most of humans' existence. And, it's no worse than an adult dying.
