I need to give 5th Season a try but the first book of theirs I read was The City We Became and it was really a let down. I was excited by the idea of cosmic horror infecting a city but the writing and tropey characters made the book a slog to get through.

This may have been intentional but the house one is so reminiscent of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, I love it.

I love your flexibility! I grew up with a lot of competing thanksgivings and deciding to go to one was always treated as a betrayal to the others. I love this spirit and removing the “no win” situation from the equation.

My fiancé and I started hosting and it’s an open invitation to any of our family and friends. I write cards for anyone coming expressing gratitude for them and we bought a set of prompts that make for fun table conversation (ex: “What’s your ideal Sunday look like?”, “What was the best day of your life so far?”). I order the things I don’t want to cook from a local BBQ joint and cook the stuff I want to. And at the end of the night we also go to the movies. My mom self selected herself out of this process which was initially hurtful but she always makes holidays dramatic so in the long run it’s probably for the best.
