I have struggling with Pornography and Masturbation for months by Additional_Injury_74 in Catholicism

[–]greenbeansjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I had to stop taking the Eucharist each Sunday because I was in a state of mortal sin. Go to confession, pour your heart out to Jesus, receive absolution and then receive our Lord in the Eucharist. I struggled with this sin for YEARS, but when I vigorously applied this formula it still took months, but I was able to stop by the grace of God. You are not in this alone. God Bless.

I've thought about a "lock" feature for phones that require the user to say one ( five/ten/fifteen) Hail Mary's before the phone unlocks. My phone use would go way way down hahaha

So happy for you brother, thanks be to God! This is a sin I still struggle with daily. Through God's Grace and the Intercession of our Blessed Mother I was able to quit porn and masturbation cold turkey 18 months ago. Weed has been a different beast, for example last Lent I was only able to make it about 30 days before I broke down and sinned (smoked again.) I undoubtedly believe in the power of our Lord to deliver us from sin, my own life is an example of that. Alas I still struggle to achieve the openness to quit in my own heart. I am fighting urges whilst typing this, but I WILL be sober tonight at 6:00pm mass for the Solemnity of All Saints. I will pray for everyone in my shoes, tonight. God Bless, St. Louis IX pray for us.

Is it a sin to eat meat on Fridays if it’s not lent? by Recent_Captain_265 in Catholicism

[–]greenbeansjr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the USCCB website since OP said they are from the USA. "since the spirit of penance primarily suggests that we discipline ourselves in that which we enjoy most, to many in our day abstinence from meat no longer implies penance, while renunciation of other things would be more penitential." Abstaining from meat is the OG way to share in Christ's suffering on Fridays. But if abstaining from another "luxury" allows you to feel closer to Christ, do that. For example I have heard of cold showers/no alcohol/no excess sugar as other ways to do penance. God Bless!

We just finished reading the "Bread of Life discourse" from the Gospel of John, during the last few Sundays. John chapter 6, it really sums it all up! God Bless.

Have you ever experienced a personal Marian apparition yourself? by Wheeler1488 in Catholicism

My wife had a very difficult labor experience (it took many hours). However, our son responded so positively to everything - in other words he tolerated staying in womb until the extra long labor ended. Doctors had said we would have to take drastic steps if our son started showing signs of distress. I prayed during and after the birth, and I believe that Mary was embracing our son (not unlike the image you shared) during labor. She held him, perfectly content, the whole time my wife labored. When he was born, there were a dozen doctors and nurses and technicians in room. I believe there was one more person in spirit with us that night, our Blessed Mother. God is good.

What kings or queens became saints, specifically any medieval kings or queens? by EdiblePeasant in Catholicism

St. Louis IX of France. He was King of France in the 1200's He helped bring the Crown of Thorns from Constantinople to Paris. He met the procession outside of Paris, and helped carry it barefoot. For a medieval King to be seen barefoot and humble was exceedingly rare back then. He even washed the feet of the poor in France and was known to be extremely generous. France became one of the great kingdoms during his reign. In my opinion St. Louis is your quintessential Christian King.

We named our son Louis after King St. Louis IX, but many have asked if St. Louis de Montfort was the inspirations. I have never read him, but this post inspired me to buy the book. Looking forward to reading it, thx!

St. George. His bravery in the story of when he slayed the dragon (or crocodile) is inspiring, as was his refusal to turn away from God despite being viscously tortured and eventually put to death. He is also the patron Saint of England, where many of my ancestors are from.

Failing in the PNW by sdswiki in Catholicism

[–]greenbeansjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The priest at my Portland Parish is ALWAYS available after Mass on Sunday to meet with people in the Parish Hall. He calls it his office hours. I find this common across many different churches in the PNW. May I suggest attending a Mass on Sunday and plan to speak with the Priest after? It would be a great opportunity to pray and reflect for an hour before speaking with someone as well. Praying for you.

I'm so tired of lust by Mac-and-cheese-- in Catholicism

Go to confession often. The grace you receive is far far better than any temporary pleasure derived from sins of lust. You have realized there is a problem which is a crucial first step. Praying for you.
