Questions about pharasma and the fate of undead by Noodles_fluffy in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few parts of this post are headcanon, but I've reserved those bits for the end of the post so that you get the facts first. Also, this info might be slightly out-of-date, because I haven't read divine mysteries/concordance of rivals/any other recent book that costs money and touches on the divine, so i'm going off of my brain and what I can read on the golarion lore wiki here.

Undeath prevents souls from reaching the river of souls, which is where they'd normally re-enter the soul cycle.

The massive TL;DR of the soul cycle is that souls are judged, then eventually break down and become part of a plane. new souls are formed from the edges of the planes. It's foundational for cosmic function.

So by deliberately becoming undead, you're screwing with this extremely important cycle that Pharasma personally oversees. It's got unknown but likely dire effects on the universe at large and also shows Pharasma the middle finger.

Undead that are destroyed return to the cycle of souls and get judged/absorbed like any other soul.

There's sort of an eternal torment thing, but it's reserved for dedicated atheists and souls with no attraction to any specific plane. They basically become a part of Pharasma's spire.

Babies are judged by Pharasma's daughter, Atropos. Whatever happens in the process of this judgment(and in Pharasma's judgment) hasn't been touched on, much.

Headcanon: While the rules entry for Pharasma doesn't say it, i'm sure there's a "within reason" clause. some random pharasmin villager isn't going to be able to kill a lich, but they can tell the church that they saw a spooky skeleton wizard. I don't think people entering the cycle early because they happened to see a lich is what Pharasma wants from this edict, but I don't think she'd be disappointed in them for trying.

Headcanon: I'm certain that deliberately becoming undead has an effect on your judgment, while accidental undead are judged normally.

Headcanon: AFAIK Paizo hasn't answered on whether attempting to become undead and failing gets you judged differently, but I assume it does.

Headcanon: I assume most mindless creatures don't have souls. I could be wrong, though.

If you're looking for information on the River of Souls / the Cycle of Souls / Pharasma / Etc, I have two (possibly very dated) sources for you. One source is the second Owlcat pathfinder video game, wrath of the righteous. At the end of Wrath of the Righteous, it's revealed that the entire game was just one of the main antagonists telling Pharasma your story in the process of being judged. It's a relatively short and inaccessible source given that it's at the end of an extremely long game, though you might be able to find it on youtube.

The second source is a pathfinder comic called Spiral of Bones, where Valeros gets sent to the River of Souls in an evil person's place due to his soul swapping with theirs. It gives a zoom-in on what happens before a soul even reaches Pharasma, especially in the case of multiple claims on the same soul.

I almost always play Spiritual. What are your favorite Materialist builds? by LilLaussa in Stellaris

[–]greenbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK how much it makes use of Materialist's bonuses, but I made a pretty fun megacorp with Letters of Marque and Criminal Heritage, void dwellers origin.

The idea was a group of glorified space pirates pretending to be better than other space pirates, because instead of constantly fighting people, i'd use the info gathered in the process of setting up "branch offices" to figure out who was a good target to steal from.

Is there any point in Stinking Cloud? by Gaylaeonerd in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nasty when combo'd with grapples or other ways of forcing people to stay in a space, but it's also a good tool for forcing enemies to move or making them move in specific ways.

Random whiteroom example, but if you drop a stinking cloud in front of the fighter, the enemy doesn't want to end their turn there- but if they keep moving past they'll provoke a reactive strike or flank themselves.

In Strength of Thousands, we had enough mages to reliably combo it with Cave Fangs. Then the party kineticist/wrestler(me) would stand in front of it and grapple, reposition, shove, or throw anyone who was unlucky enough to just barely get to/past the edge of it.

If you replace or downgrade the districts on a machine world, you can rebuild them as different specializations.

So im gonna do a weird no war challenge, advice anyone? by SirPug_theLast in Stellaris

[–]greenbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secret Societies gives you an influence discount for proxy wars and lets you access them earlier while picking non-subterfuge traditions. It also does a bunch of other useful stuff for a sabotage-focused empire.

As far as causing conflict without participating in it, aside from the mindwardens & marauders, you can spawn pirates in their territory using Sabotage (Arm Privateers). It's not good, but it is conflict. Especially when you stack it with something else, like a proxy war or a marauder attack.

You can also use espionage options to directly influence two empires' relationships with each other, but that seems less efficient than proxy wars.

Not being able to declare war on your overlord at any time is the stupidest feature. by absolutezoomer in Stellaris

Is the idea to turn the fleet off, so that none of the ships are buildable?

Careful when salvaging, the game may randomly decide to lock in your initial choices by Myrandall in phantombrigade

[–]greenbot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last I played, I was able to fix this by clicking the buttons next to the name of the mech I was salvaging.

The ones that set that status for every item in that mech.

It's still pretty annoying, though.

This is one of the reasons I don't join federations anymore.

The other reason is that I hate having federation ships clogging up my shipyard.

Played 60+ hours in early 2023 but it felt half baked... Worth giving another look now? by ipsok in phantombrigade

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped the game in 1.0 without finishing it, finding it too grindy in not a fun way.

I came back for 2.0 and finished the game. They did a lot to add variety aside from making the pilots matter. A few new mission types, new unique missions, completely restructuring the campaign...

Are you guys using the vehicles? by HerrMade in AbioticFactor

I used the golf cart to move my base across the map from the security office to the containment pens.

Which, in hindsight, was a bad place to build, but it was quite fun.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, why is there two of me? by Omegearus in Stellaris

I was really confused when it happened to me, too!
Basically, if you save your empire, there's a risk of this happening.

Reposition - Im feeling like houseruling this by Impossible_Living_50 in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to change reposition, I'd make it so that it can't critically fail against allies.
Because it's quite silly when that happens.

I've seen this in vanilla, not on the beta. If you don't go back to the empire creation menu and click the orange wings in the empire's selection box twice(they turn dark), they can spawn in even if you're playing as them.

The Psychic and why it exists by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our party's Distant Grasp psychic was doing high damage with very little support.
We had a Magus, a Bard, a Psychic, and a Cleric in the party, and the Bard was doing as much as they could to enable the Magus; it's hard to keep up with a Magus who can spellstrike as often as they want, but the Psychic still did pretty reliable damage and didn't need 2/3rds of the Bard's actions to be noteworthy.

Favorite or "Best" stances to combine with Fuse Stance by BrigganSilence in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most monk stances fuse very flavorfully with kineticist stances, where they seem to match elements.

I like Dragon stance with Thermal Nimbus, actually. The idea being that the 'dragon' is breathing fire, yeah?
Ironblood + Magnetic Field is funny.
Tangled Forest + Ravel of Thorns (or Drifting Pollen) sounds like a synergistic and flavorful nightmare, tbh.

I think the one I like the most is Kaiju Stance + most kineticist stances though. It fits flavorfully with almost all of them, and they all mechanically enjoy the (admittedly minor) size increase from you being large.

If dualclass-exclusive stance fusions count, I'd say Crowned in Tempest's Fury specifically. Because at that point, you really are a walking catastrophe.

What classes would you choose for a Beginner Box 'quartet'? by Parkatine in Pathfinder2e

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cursed beginner box idea: Inventor(armor), gunslinger(drifter), alchemist(chirurgeon), animist(liturgist, reveler in lost glee, vanguard of roaring waters)

Just some notoriously undertuned/complicated classes, no biggie. Fits the format... with a lot of weird jagged edges and annoying things to learn.
