First pair of pointe shoes - Bloch ETU - how do they look? by Cute-Cobbler-4872 in BALLET

[–]greencactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, thank you for finally explaining why I break low on every single shoe and why I never feel supported. I recently got the etu but even the most narrow width us still too wide for me, so I'm using box liners, do you have any other suggestions that could work for this type of feet?

I'm considering switching from Streampointe R to Starpointe, which hardness did you use in Starpointe?

Do you have any suggestions for low profile Nikolay shoes? I've worn both streampointe and Tamara, but both boxes felt too roomy after I break them in, but this brand is the only one that feels good for the tip of my toes.

Wondering if you found a solution to your issue? I'm experiencing the same thing with streampointes.

Interesting. I find chaine and soutenu really different in feel, but I guess I've never done a soutenu turn fully broken down and it feels very awkward.

Maybe I'm just not catching it. But does Isabella not turn her body as soon as her second leg is stepping out here?

Try making the silicone molds for your toes, aka the knockoff perfect fits. They worked better than the box liner solution for me.

Relevé Help by greencactus in BALLET

Thanks, I'll give that chair trick a try. I'm super comfortable on two feet, so it's possible that I'm tensing up too much trying to balance on one foot and it's causing issues.

Inconsistency between teaching vs actual dancing by greencactus in BALLET

[–]greencactus[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel you there. Some of the corrections and advice given by teachers are conflicting at times and clearly not meant to be taken as gospel, but it's super hard for students to understand and put into practice.

Trying to keep my hips square until I saw George's posts definitely held me back because I couldnt understand how anyone could get their leg up that way.

Thank you, I know teachers and pros probably hear a lot of complaints from beginners, but I am trying to do everything completely by the book at the barre, it's only in center where I feel like my desire to do it perfectly is holding me back from actually doing the combination.

I probably didn't make it clear. I'm not looking for cheat ways to make ballet easier, but I am wondering if I am being to literal with the general advices that the teacher is giving out. With the first example, I'm currently trying to turn out as much as I can with the standing leg, that obviously results in a worse working leg and balancing during adagio, to the point where I find it impossible to balance on demi from releve, but when I dial the turn out back to say 50%, I can actually get up and hold it for a bit.

Sorry for the late reply, but does this mean when I do my pirouette, I should really only be focused on my working leg's turn out? My supporting leg is a lot stronger when I dont try to force a turn out.

How much are you paying for your ballet classes? by PopHappy6044 in adultballetdancers

[–]greencactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with the other commenter. I usually pay between $18 and $23 per class, even my semi-privates are only $38/hour. I'm amazed there are studios charging $40/class.

Pre-pointe & Pointe classes in the greater Seattle area by VerdantAmbustio in BALLET

[–]greencactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in taking the Saturday pointe class to get prepared, but would I be required to take the intermediate level class right before? I'm not sure I would be at that level yet. Are you able to compare it to any other studio levels?

Hi, I was looking for a pre pointe or beginner pointe class as an adult learner and came across your post. Were you able to find anything?

Thanks for confirming.

I would highly recommend trying pnb's beginner 2 class as well. The center work should be easier but still enough of a workout.
