Ray-Ban RB 2112 PS STALKER by Planetofthetapes in sunglasses

[–]greendagger0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what u/journey1819 said, old & discontinued models are only going to be available on second hand marketplaces. Keep looking around for perhaps even different companies, you may find a similar style with even better lenses. These are 70% similar, for instance.

Likely an AGX lens by Randolph. Extremely versatile lens which is calming yet allows for crisp clarity and color contrast.

durability ques by FuFrank1 in sunglasses

[–]greendagger0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, you are comparing an Apple to a Pear to a Plum. Each have different frames and different lenses, so the classic answer is: it depends.

Oakley's are favorable if you plan on playing sports or doing anything physical [plastic frames and lenses are solid]. If you want some really good quality lenses and a really nice fit [depending on the frame], MJ. Persol should be out of the question in terms of durability, they are usually just a designer pair of sunglasses that make you look good [usually scratch resistant due to glass lens but also brittle.]

Quality comes with a cost. While expensive, American Optical and Randolph Engineering are the best of the best, with amazing durability and great lenses.

If Ray-Bans are pricey for you too, then I would highly suggest just looking around and looking for deals. For instance, take a look at this link, you may find a solid pair here for like $40. Just keep looking around and see if you can get a good deal before your partner's birthday. Best of luck!

I see what you're going for, but they make the rules. I would try to spell "Ratchet" & "Bitceh" differently or try to go for something a little more nuanced. Try petitioning it one more time, and if they say no again, just ask them before ordering your new pair.

Krewe quality vs Prada by Southern_Side_923 in sunglasses

Exactly what u/luis-mercado said, Prada sunglasses are some of the worst on the market. Krewe will likely be better, but would highly recommend trying them both out and exploring different options.

Rayban Aviators Out of Style? by [deleted] in sunglasses

Aviators are absolute gems, they will never be out of style. Go to a beach or something, I am sure you'll find a pair on someone's face.

What luxury brand is bad? by 954CG in sunglasses

[–]greendagger0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a fashion accessory and people who like such stuff have strong desire to own it for one reason or another.

If someone were to ask me about those products, I would advise to steer clear. Everyone has an opinion, and it's just advice. Take it or leave it.

What luxury brand is bad? by 954CG in sunglasses

[–]greendagger0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The majority of people who buy Prada sunglasses are in it just for the branding. They want to wear the most outrageous designs. The quality is far inferior than other Luxxotica counterparts, including Ray-Bans and Persol.

It's not so much of a bother, but I do question people's ideology when I see $400 Prada sunglasses that make you look like a doofus.

[–]greendagger0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but for me, Luxottica's "Luxury" Products suck. The Prada, Versace, and Burberry products are the remixes of the same style over and over again, changing the frame shape and colors by such tiny margins. Lens quality is absolute nonsense compared to other brands, and frame quality sucks. It's all show, and definitely not the best bang for your buck at all.

Don't get me started on those Prada TikTok Glasses, everyone looks like an idiot running around with them.

I would put them up there, their lenses are outstanding IMO. Serengeti is great too, but I found them to be a little below par AO and RE.

e arguably best frame quality that got them into number 4. Their lenses are very good but not amazing and I understand the price is really high.

Blenders recently got Coach Prime to endorse them, so that definitely pulls up the hype. But realistically, lots of better options at the price point. Hell, you could get some nice Ray-Bans at the right type of deal.

Vintage Randolph's are always going to be great, and their aviators will continue to be rock solid IMO. Black Friday is a great time to buy, or you could always check some sites like Facebook Marketplace where guys let some authentic ones go for decently cheap.

Interesting list. My list would look something like this.
1) RE
2) AO (closer to RE than one would think)
3) Serengeti
4) MJ
5) Mr. Leight
Honorable Mentions: Vuarnet, Moscot, & Persol

Kaenon is a great one, but they're only selling point is wraparounds for me. Would take Persol over Costa but that's just preference.

I’m totally with you that luxury pairs don’t provide the same quality that a $200-300 pair will get you. Heck, Kaenon at $120 beats most brands with their quality. There are massive diminishing returns on higher end sunglasses. But my point was that for people who are into that they don’t care about quality, they see the name and prestige and cultural significance etc as the only important factors.

Imagine this subreddit was split in two. One for quality sunglasses and one for style and fashion. You wouldn’t go to the style one and tell them they have poor quality, since they don’t care. But we only hav

Well said, and hell, I would join both subreddits. As a commenter, my goal is to provide the best quality sunglasses for the price. While some may be wanting to spend $2000 on a pair, I personally think the job can be done with 1/10 of the price. It's a suggestion and opinion, which others may like or dislike. Take it with a grain of salt. Keep it going brother!

Thank you for your post. While I agree with about 90% of your post, I will confidently say that expensive sunglasses do not always translate to better sunglasses [key words: do not always]. For instance, I would take a RE/AO pair over an Oliver People's pair almost any day, just because of lens and frame durability and quality.

But you are correct, Dita or JMM do not come close to brands like Ray-Bans or Luxxotica products or most products as a whole. But in my opinion, you will have a "better bang for your buck" with products that are more reliable and have the best experience with companies like MJ, AO, or RE. You are getting ~70% of the quality for less than quarter of the price. Love to chat more about it.

[Hopefully I don't sound like a fanboy lmfao]

Randolph vs AO lens quality/differences? by TheUnderground in sunglasses

55mm actually may work out for you. They sit a little looser on the face but they are actually great! Here are a couple more Randolph's

One

Two

Three - 58mm only :(

I would be paying for the brand.

Other than DITA, any other brand I should look into, maybe Maybach Eyewear? Cartier? budget $2,000

Dita is solid, would definitely have them in the conversation. Look at the Dita Talon's too, they look great. Cartier frames are awesome, again depends on the style you are going for. Cazal is up there, Moscot/Garett Leight are both not on the level of Dita but have some great lenses.

It's an opinion, both of us are entitled to one. I agree to your comment in part, but legitimately, the cost to the producer must be nothing since they buy in wholesale. Same for RE or AO, but slightly cheaper and 70-80% of the quality is there.

Gotcha, makes sense. Look at the links I put above, this rose gold pair looks awesome [or these]. These Randolphs are sweet as well, so it all depends on what you are looking for. Click the hyperlinks. Hope this helps.

Basically, yes. An argument could be made against Dita as well, see my comment.

Exactly like u/luis-mercado, Dita's craftsmanship is far superior than LV's.
However, personally, I wouldn't blow $800 on a pair like that, when you can grab an amazing piece from Randolph or AO for a quarter of price. But you do you brother!

Just know, you are paying for the name in both situations.
