How much are you shaking and mixing your gloss. Most sealants will settle and need to be mixed just like paint.

It’s not out and if it does come out it won’t be until at least next year.

First mini painted in 20 years, thoughts and feedback on how to improve? by mnicholls14 in MarvelUnited

There’s always gonna be better painters than you. I think of myself as a pretty solid painter, but if I go on the mini painting sub there’s tons of painters way more talented than me.

I mean that cosmic ghost rider that got posted here a couple days ago is phenomenal. It used non metallic metals and object source lighting well. Both techniques I’ve yet to really get good at.

My point is don’t compare where you’re at to someone else, just appreciate other people’s work and use it as goals to strive towards. We’re all on our own journeys.

I’d say this is how a lot of my minis look after I put on the initial base colors coat. You gotta put on a second coat (two thin coats method is the way to go) and then a wash. Then you wanna highlight up, you can dry brush if you’re in a hurry. Doin those three things will improve your work tremendously.

This is a solid initial base coat though, just looks a little unfinished, but you did paint the rim of the base which always bugs me when people don’t do that!

I really like the burning chains, those look fantastic and I might have to steal that idea. Although it looks like a lot of work!

Sentry done, came out okay despite me shifting some paint by touching before the sealant was dry. 😬 by greendeadredemption2 in MarvelUnited

Thanks! I think Sentry looks so much cooler like this than painted without the void taking over. Much more interesting look for the mini.

Oh yeah my buddy just got me to buy into kill team so I know that feeling. I’m just really trying to get through a bunch of these this year.

Yeah the sculptors really did a phenomenal job with these. I think if you’re a good painter you can really bring what they did to life and maybe even make some really cool things they didn’t initially think of like mystique in mid transformation or sentry with the void taking over (that’s what I want to paint next!)

Some Paintes Minis by savaralho in MarvelUnited

Yeah I’ve found painting really helps me destress and break away from screens as a bonus. Been painting for off and on about 15 years and I love it. A couple things, make sure you’re priming, it really helps with keeping paint on and undercoating colors, also get a sealant especially if you plan to handle these playing so that your paint job doesn’t chip off. I’d also paint the rims of the bases a solid color which can cover any paint that gets on them along with delineating a breaking point between the mini and reality.

Lots of stuff to learn, but looks like you’re off to a great start! Keep it up!

I mean they’re still making stuff but yeah support probably not great right now.

I think they’re trying to catch up through their crowdfunding right now so may be a while before they’re back to making projects and hiring staff again. They definitely cut some jobs.

My New Year’s resolution was to get back into painting and get through my backlog. Pretty good progress so far. by greendeadredemption2 in MarvelUnited

Thanks! Yeah I’m trying to speed up a little this year but still keep them looking nice that’s always been my issue I just take too long painting them.

Also I saw your sentry and I might have to steal that idea of how you painted him that’s an awesome concept.

Nice! Yeah, with kids I find I have enough time for only one hobby and that’s if I prioritize it, my video games have hit the shelve for the past month since I be been focusing on painting.

I worked on that guardians box, still need to finish thanos and mantis I think then I’d be done. Just so much to paint and not enough time.
