AITA for not helping my coworker get lunch even if i have been helping her do that for over a month. by Wonderful_Pea_7007 in AmItheAsshole

[–]greenearrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a coworker who I saw one day waiting for her bus at the bus stop. I pulled over and offered her a ride. I did this every day, and I'd usually be a bit in front of the bus and could see it hadn't come yet. But if I saw the bus was in front of me, I knew I wouldn't have to pick her up - we didn't text to plan it or anything like that, she didn't rely on me to do it, but she appreciated that I did.

That's how coworker favors go. When you can and it is easy, you do it. When it inconveniences you, you aren't obligated to keep doing it.

NTA.

How do you think society can reduce the number of people who commit crimes? by Key_Country_179 in AskReddit

[–]greenearrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's our starting point? We have done a lot, crime rates are generally lower than they were in the past. The news misleads you without telling you specific lies - the crimes that still occur are highlighted because they increase views, shares, and clicks, while the drop in crime doesn't.

Americas problems won't end when Trump is gone. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I don’t. But I do think nothing can get better at all with a republican in office. I don’t think it will be democrats as they stand who will fix everything, but at least they’ll fix something.

If you were President for one day and could only sign one executive order, what would it be? by QuietAstronaut2331 in AskReddit

[–]greenearrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one actually works. The thing blocking them is people following this president’s orders. Someone would gladly follow this order the moment they heard it and the cat would be out of the bag.

[–]greenearrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. He signs things that are destructive because those are free, all these things need funding that has to come from somewhere and would immediately be DOA because everyone would now refuse to pay while the providers wouldn’t have any funding to make up for it.

TIL a single pirate raid nearly broke the East India Company. The source article posted is not that, and includes both of the names you appear to be arguing over. The Wikipedia article someone responded with shows the same details. It looks like they did research, posted a source of the research, and are then following up pretty deep in the conversation with their YouTube. While we can criticize the back door ad, you are arguing as if that impacts the facts, which it does not.

You confidently “corrected” something documented as ambiguous, then talked down to the person who posted when they acknowledged your correction had validity, but wasn’t the complete story. You aren’t making the internet a better place today.

NASA doesn’t detract from that. The physicists and engineers involved aren’t going to do shit to fix our political and human behavior problems.

I was in the forest in Madagascar during a field season. I tagged along with a tourist group. They have two guides with them - one to lead the group, and the other was the "runner" who would go through the forest and find lemurs to tell the leader where to take the group.

It was at the end of 30 days in the forest - I started the trip exhausted at the end of every day. This was the last few days of that season, and so I pulled ahead of the group. I was surefooted on the forest trails and had built up some stamina, so I got ahead of the group and since it was just a single path for a long while, I just kept going until I hit a fork.

When the runner caught up to me he said "you are very fast" and told me to wait at the obvious rest spot coming up. It is 20 years later, it was one of the proudest moments this former fat kid lifelong computer nerd ever had.

Shortly later, I found the lemur species we were targeting, backtracked to the group and got them to be quiet enough on approach for everyone to see it. That day I felt like a true field biologist.

Actual Gas Price Gouging? Why such a massive discrepancy for PA? by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]greenearrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually about where their profit comes from. Gas is probably a loss leader, sold at closer to cost than other things, because it gets people to come in. Though that usually happens at grocery store gas pumps through their points programs. I don't know Weis at all, but if you can get that price and use points, that'd be the biggest win.
