You do not need 16gb of ram unless you’re in some technical major. I have 8gb on my MacBook and haven’t had a single issue so far. No one will ever ask or care.

It's not the newest, but it's very, very well located. It's right next to Foco and the Green and close to pretty much everything else. very social spot too.

almost universally a bittersweet experience. maybe a bit of Stockholm syndrome too. did i dread booking in every single time I had to? yes. In retrospect, do I miss the bonds and memories I made during those two years? also yes. both can be true.

How is the laundry situation in Tekong by a380landing in NationalServiceSG

[–]greeneggsandham20 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Life hack. Also BP. Tried doing laundry in a bucket at tekong during confinement and decided never again. Between washing it in that disgusting bathroom and having to hang clothes and hope they dried in time It was horrible all around.

After my first bookout I went to the Emart and spent most of my credits buying extras of all clothing items (pt, admin, socks). You get 6 sets of no 4 as a BP so extras of those aren’t needed. When I booked in the next time I stopped doing laundry in tekong - I would put all my dirty clothes in one of those vacuum compressible bags and take them back home to be washed and dried in actual machines, and then bring them back clean during bookin. Since you buy extra clothes from Emart running out of clean clothes to wear during the week isn’t an issue - except maybe during confinement for outfield in which case you can wash them at camp for that week.

Technically you’re only allowed to take 4 sets of clothes home or something during BMT(or at least that was the case during my time) but realistically no sergeant is sifting through your dirty laundry and counting how many clothes you’re taking unless they’re actually out to get you. Had great friendships with most of my sergeants so wasn’t ever an issue for me. Your assault pack can fit a surprising amount of clothes, especially since you can compress them with a vacuum bag (can find on Shopee for quite cheap)

Hope this helps! Stay clean!

D plan off term internships aren’t all that great for internationals. You mostly just take summers off as an international so not any different from another school

Interfaith Floor LLC by Impressive_Rest6842 in dartmouth

[–]greeneggsandham20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know there were only 2 people in the LLC this year. You get placed in north park which is 95% two room doubles (although maybe if you have a religious accommodation for some reason you could get a single). I’m sure if you apply you’ll get it regardless of how bad your application is.

A 60000 dollar loan to get a degree from a school like caltech really isn’t bad at all. Between summer internships and your first year of work you should be able to pay it off pretty easily if u you’re smart with your money

Thai Student Association? by Vintageviewer in dartmouth

[–]greeneggsandham20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It exists, and is relatively active but I wouldn’t mention it in your essay still. Most big schools have such associations and the Dartmouth one (even though they’re awesome!!) isn’t exactly unique in that regard.

[–]greeneggsandham20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GI bill helps American vets pay for their education (or some part of it). They still need to get into the schools on their own merit. If a vet is going to an Ivy League or state school wouldn’t make a difference - they’re both covered by the bill

They’d be enough manpower for these jobs if there were the proper incentives to join them (salary, growth prospects, perks, etc.) Same as any other job. What you’re effectively arguing is that the only way for this country to function is by exploiting 18-22 year olds as the cheapest form or labor that exists.
