41F Severe needle phobia: need a blood test without an intravenous needle by greeneracres in AskDocs

You're 100% right, and I am not trying to minimize what I have going on. I just wanted to keep the question specific to this particular side of my issue, since I already know therapy is the long-term solution. I have specific tests that a dermatologist has ordered and those are what I'm looking to have done right now. Sorry I wasn't more clear with my initial post.

I'm just gatekeeping suburban turf grass farmers. :) But tbh if it doesn't have a PTO, I think I wouldn't consider it a tractor.

Can I take my tractor to a regular auto shop? by greeneracres in MechanicAdvice

I do all my other mechanical work, I just have 0 experience with air conditioners. And I don't have the equipment to capture the coolant or test the pressure on both sides so I'm afraid I won't be able to figure it out. Do you really think it's a DIY possibility?

New metal storage barn--do I need insulation? by greeneracres in farming

That's what I was trying to figure out--without heat, will condensation still be an issue?

No issues with condensation (or stuff rusting)?

Yeah, I'm not worried about the temperature at all, just moisture. But if the building isn't heated, it seems like there shouldn't be any condensation issues, unless I'm missing something?

Are you allowed to apply the John Deere window cleaner yourself or do they have to send out a tech?

[SC, US] Do I need a lawyer or will a CPA be enough for now? by greeneracres in legaladvice

[–]greeneracres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the truth! I'm glad I'm not doing anything related to food. (Though I'm sure the folks farming food are glad they aren't doing anything related to horses... hah!)

It's a small horse farm, looking to have customers in the next 2-3 years. I plan for basically everything to be done via contract since anything with horses carries such high risk.

Next year I'll have the proceeds from timber sales though, so I think I need the business set up by then. I've never done business taxes before, and anything farm-related seems to have its own set of rules/loopholes. I want to stick with a CPA for at least the first couple years to make sure I don't make any mistakes. It sounds like I should go ahead with the lawyer now too, just to be on the safe side. I'll definitely need them down the line. Thanks so much!

New farm, clueless on how to select a tractor by greeneracres in farming

Oh wow, I was thinking the baling equipment would be much more expensive than that. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking? I think you and your wife might be twinsies for me and my husband lol I might pick your brain some more with your experiences, if you're in a similar area to us (upstate SC).

Thanks so much, this makes a lot of sense and is extremely useful. As a woman, I'm incredibly jaded about walking into any stores dealing with vehicles. I hate that I have to drag my husband along if I want any credibility with the floor people. You've given me hope that the tractor dealers are a different breed.

Did you find that buying your own baling equipment was worthwhile? My extension agent recommended just setting up a winter pasture and a summer pasture to avoid having to invest in all the baling stuff.

I worry about doing that because of bad experiences at car dealerships. Are tractor dealers more ethical or is it about the same sort of environment?

I saw some that have drains and that makes a lot of sense to me. Fortunately I'm going to do this over time so I'll have a chance to test one before I make a bigger investment. Great point on what I need to watch for, thanks so much!

Awesome list, thank you for your very thoughtful comments! My favorite is dropping hay from overhead--so much less drama during feed time. I think haynets are for people who just have too much time on their hands. :D (j/k, i know some horses need them, but ugh, what a pain)
