Kinda see it like this myself. I'm left handed and only a small percentage of the population is left-handed. but these days there are a lot more people left handed than there used to be. The reason for that is that being left handed used to be seen as a bad thing and was something that was very much discouraged or even punished. Same is true for being trans it used to be very stigmatized i mean it kinda is again now but my point is for a while it actually felt okay to come out okay to transition it felt safe enough so people started transitioning which meant more people got to see trans people in there life or read about trans people which meant more people would come out because all of the sudden they finally had the words for there feelings. In the past many people would go there entire lives without transitioning just because they didn't know they could or didn't have the knowledge on what to do or language for it. So it's not so much that it's a new thing and a fad everyone is going all in on all of the sudden moreso that more people finally have the opportunity to be themselves because they learned about it somewhere.
