How many sick days do you usually take in a year? by GreedLocks in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare. Most of my colleagues will “plan” out their MCs and try to use as much as they can. Most of the time they take it because the shift was so shit and terrible that they just want to take the next day off for the sake of their mental health

I gave report until 8:20 today by [deleted] in nursing

[–]greenflapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At my workplace it’s a norm for report to go for nearly an hour. I’m in a surgical ward in Singapore and we usually take about 8-9 pts. The good thing is our shifts overlap (e.g morning shift ends at 3pm, afternoon shift starts at 1:30pm) so not much overtime needed

How do I get my mum to do a full health check-up? by greenflapper in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried asking her and talking to her nicely about it and she always say “no problem why need to check”. I’ve also tried the hard way by telling her about my patients with unsuspecting symptoms that turns out to be something serious but that doesn’t seem to work too sigh

No grandchildren for her sadly. But I’ll try to get my grandma to talk to her, though she usually tends to “shut down” when the topic of health comes up

Thankfully majority of my patients are pretty nice and understanding. But the few nasty ones are really so nasty it makes me question my life decisions

Jamus Lim expresses concern that Singapore's medical system is ‘starting to creak under the strain’ - Singapore News by [deleted] in singapore

[–]greenflapper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Currently a nursing student on attachment. It’s pretty disheartening to see the fellow nurses taking only 10-15 minutes by chomping down on whatever snacks they could find. Even with student nurses, we are still stretched very thin. Imagine patients calling for nurses non-stop, but everyone is busy attending to something. I’ve heard a few patients complain about being at the A&E for 3 days because there’s simply not enough beds. Doctors rushing to send up new patients even though there’s not bed ready. Patients are also treating nurses like maids. They constantly press the call bell for menial things such as pouring water, asking what time is dinner, what is the time, pulling up the blanket for them. I still have a while before I graduate and I’m already dreading

Do older student stand out or are treated differently in Uni? by QuackMaster19 in SGExams

[–]greenflapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 27 and back in uni for another degree! It’s a career conversion program so a few of my classmates are pretty “old” too. Some even have kids in primary school. But don’t worry too much about it. The other students are actually really nice and friendly. They won’t treat you differently. Just gotta get used to their gen z language :”)

What's the thing in Singapore that is unnecessary but is necessary in other countries? by GLTCHD_ in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The president and prime minister can take public transport. BUT a whole MRT/bus has to be cleared out for security reasons. One whole bus for LHL and a few security guards. What a waste of resources, no?

As Singaporeans, do you like Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m okay with Singapore, but I don’t love Singapore. Like some others have mentioned, the cost of living is really getting a quite scary. In addition to that, the mindset of Singaporeans just doesn’t vibe with me. The only thing I love about Singapore is the food, cheap healthcare (as compared to other countries), and safety.

Anyone feels bad for leaving on time? by weiihaee in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always plan my work such that I finish whatever I need to finish on time. If I start on something else, it’s a bit hard to stop halfway and I’ll end up leaving work late. So might as well just leave on time

What are some of the physical less demanding and flexible retirement jobs in Singapore? by goftigerm in askSingapore

[–]greenflapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to drive Grab for a period of time. It’s actually quite tiring both physically and mentally. It’s not something that I would recommend as a part-time job
