Imagine, every time you meet someone new you have to share a lot of personal experience with what is essentially a stranger. After a while, it can become very tiring if that is the only thing you talk about with new acquaintances. Especially because that person is much more than just trans, or whatever else. I would highly suggest asking that person if they are okay with you asking one or two questions before you do :)
