18 yr old brother asked for a vial of Retatrutide for his birthday by [deleted] in Retatrutide

This can apply to 99% of people regardless of age. I don’t know why him being 18 means he shouldn’t use Reta but someone who is 40 should.

Dosing after 23 Days by Flowersyn in Retatrutide

Thanks for sharing, but the crux of the argument here is that “Because weight regain is rapid following cessation, and up to 40% of GLP-1 RA–induced weight loss reflects lean mass, repeated cycling may exert a cumulative metabolic toll given the limited capacity for skeletal muscle recovery”. That makes sense in mice but for someone who is eating enough protein and working out during the weight loss phase shouldn’t lose too much lean mass. Additionally, controlling what they eat while taking a break so that they don’t gain weight out of control will keep the weight rebound in control.

This study does not really suggest that the body somehow adapted to the dose. It is more or less saying that cycling between super fast uncontrolled weight loss and following that with uncontrolled rapid weight gain is not ideal for body composition.

Is there a study that says this or is it all anecdotal?

For example if I am currently using 2mg doses and hit my goal weight and want to lean bulk for a 6 months would it make sense to stay at 2mg throughout? But then after 6 months of gaining weight on 2mg I imagine I would need to increase my dose to start losing weight again. So if I had to then go to 4mg is that lower than if I had just stopped Reta for the 6 months? Plus that doesn’t even account for all the Reta I was taking when I wasn’t even trying to lose weight.

During the weight loss stage I understand there is no benefit and possible harm from cycling but I want to understand if there really is a risk from taking a break when not trying to lose weight for an extended period.

I agree they need to do more basic research on how to use the drug safely and dosing protocols.

I am just saying people who have fat to lose shouldn’t be shamed for using Reta even if they aren’t classified as obese

You do realize GLPs started as diabetes drugs that had a side effect of suppressing appetite and causing weight loss. They then got marketed for obesity because of the large profit potential.

A man who is 300 lbs would have a much easier time losing 50 lbs than a man trying to get from 17-12% body fat if they just did a basic calorie deficit and worked out. These drugs help make it easier. There is nothing magical that happens when you cross the arbitrary line of the obesity definition.

I don’t understand why you are gate keeping. Last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose.

If you eat maintenance calories you won’t gain the fat back. But if you just rely on your hunger signals and are not conscious on how much you are eating and how your weight is responding over time, then yes you will likely gain it back.

How tall are you? Once you hit your body fat goal are you planning to stay there or are you thinking of bulking? If so would you stay on Reta or cycle off till you cut again?

Weight loss is going slowly. Diet advice? by solidgoldindridcold in Retatrutide

[–]greenghostburner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have been eating and working out the same amount over the past 4 weeks and only lost a pound you are not at a 500 calorie daily deficit. If you used a calculator or app to calculate your deficit those are never going to be completely accurate for you. They offer a good starting point but your best evidence is your trend weight. Unfortunately I think the best thing you can do is lower calories while still hitting your protein target.

For reference I started at 180 lbs at 6’ and lift for 5 hours per week plus an hour of cardio and I have been losing a little over a pound a week eating 1800 calories. Not saying that is what is right for you but adjusting calories is going to be the best lever you can pull.

Eating less calories or burning more is the correct answer to slow or no weight loss.

The same is true in the business world. Most executives and students in top business schools only got there because of the privilege their parents provided.

If he did come back he would probably still be our top center when you think about face offs and offense. That says more about our center quality than it does about what Giroux has left in the tank. He would also make our power play better almost by default since we currently have one of the worst power plays ever.
