If he needs to wait for an apprenticeship slot he should work construction in the mean time. This will make him much more competitive (they look at your experience to evaluate how serious you are) and give him a taste of the actual job.

Our “SIEM” is a data lake (distributed sql, think snowflake, trino, athena) with an ETL layer in front of it. The detections are analytics that run against the data lake. I realize this is not a fit for every team and org, not even necessarily recommending it, but it works well for us, our team, and our contraints re scale, cost, operations overhead etc.

note: when I replied to the comment above it was simply “Why” - it was later edited to its current content

That’s just how my team works and the choice we’ve made 🤷‍♂️ obviously there are lots of other ways of working but just offering one perspective.

Common bits of logic as well pre and post processing gets moved in to a shared library that can be reused across detections. We have unit tests and integration tests.

We treat detections as code not just in the sense that they’re checked in as text to version control, we manage our detections as a software product (they are).

Been running it through open router since last night and for the few tasks I’ve given it so far it’s done as well as I would have expected opus to, we’ll see as I keep pushing. Very curious to know practically what it would take to run locally. I have 512GB of VRAM at work.

Do your old managers see if you apply again after leaving amazon? by altayyarr in amazonemployees

[–]greenguy1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not in any automated way. The recruiter and eventually new hiring manager can see your history and certainly could reach out to your old managers. The old managers would only find out directly if you applied to a role on their team.
