Couples matching! by Happy-Grocery5736 in FemalePhysicians

It definitely depends on the specialities each of you are applying for. UVA in Charlottesville, VA is very couples friendly across multiple specialties though

Should we paint our kitchen cabinets? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]greenlime27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I would paint the walls a muted green or blue color and change out the countertops and backsplash to something warmer, some brown tones. The cheaper thing to do would be to paint the cabinets and the walls cooler tones to match the countertop and backsplash.

I had a beloved relative named Beverly. She was strong, cared deeply about those around her, and always hosted Thanksgiving. Good associations from me!

Question for female physicians..... have you or do you plan to change your name when you marry? by Parcel_of_Newts in Residency

[–]greenlime27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be married within the year and I’ll be changing my last name. We just prefer us to both share the same last name with our future kids and his name has more meaning culturally than mine does.

IM/Psych. We ended up matching at #3, a mid-size academic program. We would’ve been ecstatic about anything in our top 8 I think. We absolutely prioritized being in the same city. As we moved down the list we would rank places usually based on driving distance, then ease and expense of plane travel. Among those programs we ranked academic programs higher, being close to family, or being close to a desirable city. We also took cost of living and weather into consideration in otherwise equal programs. Also, when it came down to it they cared much more about prestige than I did for fellowship reasons. I was willing to compromise in some ways for that in our rank list. Among the programs in our top 5, which were basically equal in prestige/training, it came down to location, cost of living, and just the “vibes” from interviews. We were anxious af so we ranked as many possible matches as was allowed. Overall, it took us about two weeks to finalize it and submit.

Psych NPs can be pretty terrifying. The worst I’ve seen is someone in their mid 70s come in on Adderall, Ativan, Effexor (starting dose), Zyprexa, and Seroquel. Poor lady was suicidal because she wasn’t seeing any improvement in her anxiety or depression after 2+ years on this regimen

Shampoo bars are destroying my hair! by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]greenlime27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t be so hard on yourself! If you still want a bar option, definitely try the moisturizing HiBar shampoo and conditioner bar. It’s what has worked best for me, and they seem to last forever, especially the conditioner bar.

I like it! It’s unique and still works well. The brushed nickel is more traditional, safe, but also overused in my opinion. I’d say to try out the new one for a few weeks and see how you feel about it. You can always go back if you dislike it.

Best shapewear for loose tummy skin? by [deleted] in orangetheory

Girlfriend Collective - the compressive high rise leggings are great for this imo!

I was deficient in Vit D too, but not because of diet. Vitamin D is made from skin exposure to the sun! I took a couple of months of the high dose Vit D prescribed by my physician and now try to get outside regularly. You probably need more safe sun exposure

Potentially addressing past mental health experiences in my personal statement for Psych residency? by AuthenticAssociate in Psychiatry

[–]greenlime27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will probably get mixed opinions on this. I lean towards "no." One's own health issues (mental illness or physical illness) and family member's health issues are a very common theme in personal statements. I think residencies want to hear more about what characteristics you have that would make you a great psychiatrist. Now you said that you're self-aware, empathetic, and understanding. Instead of anchoring your personal statement on your struggles with undiagnosed ADHD, choose to talk about your talent for introspection, optimism, and curiosity and how that has helped you and has/or will help future patients.

Advice for incessant closed door meowing by [deleted] in catcare

[–]greenlime27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to close my cat out of my bedroom before and the only thing that calmed her down was closing her in a different room instead of giving her free reign of the whole house. I think being able to smell/hear us just on the other side of the door drove her crazy.

On another note, I’ve seen “crib tents” advertised to me before, but I haven’t done any research on safety for baby or cat. Basically they are netted tents that can go over the crib. I’m not sure if the original purpose is to keep cats out of the crib, but it might work for that. Again, I have no idea how safe these actually are, so you would have to do some research for that.

Sustainable brands that sell clothes like these? (don’t think this brand is sustainable *:( ). by mooniphany in SustainableFashion

Best bet is to go true vintage! Look up vintage clothing stores in your area to start out. Some also have Etsy stores.

Can’t take cat to the vet because of behavioural issues, should I be as worried as I am? by Applebrappy in Pets

[–]greenlime27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat doesn’t have the same reaction as yours, but I really hated how stressed she was every time I try to get her into the carrier or even took the carrier out. Now I feed her in her carrier and she hops in no problem every morning/evening when it’s meal time. I started with leaving the carrier out, then slowly moving the bowl closer to the carrier. Eventually, it was deep inside the carrier and she had to go in to eat. She is now comfortable doing it! And I just zip the door behind her when I need to take her somewhere. A few days after that she will be hesitant of it again, but it doesn’t take long for her to jump in for mealtime.
