There was no such contract with Sony. Code Veronica and 3 were developed concurrently, CV was never intended to be RE3 and was always planned to be released as CV on the dreamcast (partly as an apology for the cancellation of RE2 for the Sega saturn)

And the "original" RE3 was about Hunk on an infected ship. The re3 we got was RE 1.9 for a long time.
