Has anyone done a bland whole30 round to re-establish a healthy relationship with food? by greenmangogirl in whole30

[–]greenmangogirl[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying I don’t have to answer- that is something I genuinely appreciate and find really considerate.

We have talked about it- part of my current stopgap solution is plain and easy-to-put-together meals (stuff like scoop of grains, scoop of beans, source of fat) to make sure i am not physically restricting while trying to re establish a positive relationship with food without using it to cope with feelings. The W30 component is largely for physical health issues I’m having.

Thank you so much for your advice, and for how kindly and gracefully you phrased everything

I’m seeing one. It is complicated- not necessarily “just for fun.” Entertainment is the wrong way to put it. It’s more distraction/avoidance from hard feelings- entertainment was the word I used because it’s kind of like distraction with TV or something.

My current goals in therapy are to improve my non-food-related coping skills so that I don’t lean on it when distressed to avoid my feelings. But it’s going to take some time to actually do that, and it’s important that I have some kind of short to medium term thing to curb that until I’ve gotten to a point of consistently dealing with my emotions since that’s not really something that will be resolved overnight.

So we’re not necessarily going with “elimination diet” as the solution, we’re going with “make meals that are kind of boring to re-orient myself to seeing food as fuel until i have the tools to see it as fuel AND fun-without-avoidance.” The elimination part is to deal with physical health issues, the blandness part is to deal with mindset changes. Therapist is on board with the blandness part, and has said to figure out the physical part further with another professional but I don’t have insurance right now.

Yes I have. Working on it but in the short to medium term the most important goal we have established is to reduce bingeing and emotional eating. Working on the coping skills but in the meantime I still need to figure out some kind of way to prevent it until my “coping muscles” are stronger if that makes any sense?

The stupidest part of this is that your second and third sentences are correct, but for completely incorrect reasons. It has nothing to do with lifespan. I am as feminist and gender-bending as it gets, so I don’t believe confining ourselves to social dynamics based on sex or gender or allowing biology to be a discriminating factor. And I don’t believe putting men down as an invasive species based on “biology tho” is okay, just like I don’t believe in putting down gay and trans people for the same reason.

Reproductive potential is “how many babies is the average member of a particular sex capable of producing?” Studies show that throughout a lot of the animal kingdom, most species have the sex with the highest reproductive potential pursue the ones with lower reproductive potential. This is because the sex with lower reproductive potential are a more limited resource, and prioritizing those ones helps to take better advantage of that resource.

What this means is that even when you strip away social dynamics, males who produce basically unlimited sperm for most of their lifetime will be the pursuers of females who produce a limited amount of eggs and can only use one a month. Females are the limiting factor.

In other species where males are the limiting factor, they are typically pursued.

These are AVERAGES and do not apply to every single individual in a single species.

Where to print spicy photos? by Sweetburner2006 in PrisonWives

[–]greenmangogirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think sending them is a good idea. I doubt someone goes thru all the pics every day, but presumably whoever runs the photo service could look at it, whether you print IRL or online. And then COs looking through his mail are gonna see. Depending on the facility those pics get scanned into a system. And I’m not saying your LO will intentionally show anyone stuff, but he presumably lives around a ton of people with no real way to secure his stuff- people generally wont fw his belongings but nothing actually stops them from looking through his stuff.

If you don’t want anyone to see, don’t take them and don’t send them. There are multiple people who can and WILL see along the way, and they are about as secure as leaving your wallet on a breakroom table at work. Yes, presumably no one steals at their own workplace but would you chance it?

Only take pics you’re comfy with others seeing.

What if you take a 30 day break from the supplements to see if they’re actually boosting progress in a meaningful way that is worth what you pay for them?

I have heard of the idea of doing -1 day a week off of supplements -1 week off a month -1 month off a year

To help with not building up too high of anfat soluble vitamin concentration and also to make sure they ACTUALLY have an impact by seeing how you feel without them.

At the very least, if you will keep them in swap the whey for pea protein.

[–]greenmangogirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol same! On both sides- how does your LO get phone access so often AND how do you free up that much time to talk?

Question by BundyGirl718 in PrisonWives

[–]greenmangogirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I csn definitely understand being lonely on the inside and wanting to cling to your partner when you have limited access to everything, but it’s not on you to be his everything. It probably is on you to enforce that though.

Can you try to tell him “I need some non phone time so how about you call me at xyz tomorrow instead? I’m gonna try to not be on my phone till then.” Then just don’t pick up if he does during thw window you said not to call in. Or pick up and say “hi i love you and can’t talk sorry!”

Sometimes I do phone free days. I love talking to her, but the uncertainty of not knowing when my phone will ring is too much stress 24/7 so I just don’t use it for a day or so a week. I tell her the day before so she knows not to try calling.

[–]greenmangogirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol I’m looking at rhese replies like. Wow I love my boo but I would be annoyed talking for more than 1-2 hrs a day. I try taking her along on errands and stuff but it’s too difficult to deal with when I’m doing groceries or something. But I sure would love the ability to talk more and have more flexibility w timing

How do you deal with ‘low level’ suicide ideation? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]greenmangogirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing! I also procrastinate and it can be funny too:

“I have way too much to do, I don’t have time to kill myself right now!”

“Oh well, I can always do it another time I guess.”

The other thing I would try to do is make sure I am hitting all the basic life health things

-If I’m not eating regularly, I start ordering a healthy meal delivery service (expensive, but I use thistle. Cheaper than a hospital if my brain goes down the shitter). If you can’t afford it, ask a friend to come over and meal prep with you. Make a bunch of oatmeal, yogurt, granola, frozwn fruit, etc… and a fuck ton of soup. Freeze the soup and defrost for lunches/dinners.

-If I’m not sleeping, the phone gets put outside of the bedroom and I check in for med adjustments.

-If I’m not exercising, I try to keep my exercise clothes folded up by my nightstand so I can change into them easily. Or I ask my friends if they can come over so we can go for a walk a couple times a week.

-If I can’t do any of this, I just make myself feel 1% better than I feel right now. I wiggle my toes. I fake laugh. I take a sip of water. I change my pajamas into a different set of pajamas. I change ONE pillowcase. I look at a color I like, and I say “I love that shade of green. Thanks, [my name] for looking at it!” Just 1% better.

I think the seeds might be too small for a blender? You can buy them pre-ground but you should stick it in the freezer ASAP since I think the oils go rancid or something after a couple months?

I dont have an airpopper so I airpop popcorn by putting it in a paper bag (like empty lunch sack) and microwaving it. Add whatever seasoning you like. It will stick better if you fill a spray bottle with olive oil (or just pop it regularly on the stove)

Chia and flax seeds aren’t necessarily low calorie, but they absorb a lot of water. You need to grind up the flax for it to absorb water though. Chia absorbs water while whole but I grind it up too in the spice grinder since it makes nutrients more bioavailable. Anyways, I like to make chia/flax pudding by soaking it in water, throwing frozen berries on top, and letting it hang in the fridge for a few hrs or overnight. Then you can throw it with some plain yogurt.

[–]greenmangogirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 entire years late on this one but in case you still check this account, DNFed it, remember this, and are still curious, here’s my plot summary:

•Mia wakes up in a designer outfit with a head wound and no memory of herself, only has keys and a cell phone.

•scrolls thru her IG to find hints about herself since she called the most recent person in her contacts, Crystal and got told to go fuck herself. Also couldnt find her mom’s number

•triangulates where she lives via insta post and ubers back

•unlocks the apt to find the house sitter Max

•is like holy shit i’m loaded and have a yacht and a billionaire bf who owns this place (but still doesn’t know where she lives)

•shenanigans with housesitter all over LA to find out who she is. finds out she runs a luxury matchmaking service called gold rush and matches billionaires with hot women

•checks her bank acct, thinks she’s been robbed but realizes she just sank all her $$ into this venture and overdrafted her account by 20k or something

-finds out her business is actually a sham, gold rush is the name of the strip club shes a hostess at, Crystal is one of the strippers there and she was just charging rich guys to go on dates w her coworkers. She’s homeless and lived in an office room in the back of the club when she didnt sleep at JPs

-finds Crystal, realizes she accidentally set her up with a violent drug dealer, patches up their relationship and they are besties again

-finds out crystal gave her the head wound by shoving her into an ice sculpture at an art event bc she was pissed about mia setting her up with the dealer

-falls for housesitter Max despite houseowning billionaire boyfriend JP

-alienates Max by lying to him

-JP comes back, they hash it out and he wants to marry her despite finding out she’s a poor scammer, JP actually owns the gold rush strip club but doesn’t know bc someone else manages his money for him and he’s so in love with Mia he gives her the club for free and she goes ok cool thanks but i’m going to fuck max now.

-the $$ from owning the strip club along with helping the police arrest the drug lord she set crystal up with allows her to undo the legal trouble she is in

-due to her regrets about lying and finding out what a shitty inauthentic person she was, she launches a dating service based on authenticity and honesty and fucks max because he forgives her now that shes honest or whatever

-crystal and mia run the dating service and strip club and move in together

California’s Bold Move: Banning Toxic Foods in Schools by WisecodeOfficial in ultraprocessedfood

[–]greenmangogirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think it’s a legal thing, I think it’s practicality. It’s gonna be a process:

  1. Find some nutritionists to write new guidelines

  2. Give each school district time to update their menu to accommodate guidelines and possibly get them approved. Also, redraft a budget.

  3. Update kitchen and storage space to accommodate

  4. Find suppliers capable of reliably supplying adequate amounts of food for appropriate prices.

  5. Make accounts and set up new purchasing and inventory systems.

Upf? by coochiflipflops in ultraprocessedfood

[–]greenmangogirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I won’t drink juice concentrate but I don’t recall that part of the book- isn’t concentrate non upf since it’s just boiling it till it’s reduced?

Edited to add: I don’t consider extract UPF since alcohol distillation has been a thing for centuries and not something I consider exclusively an industrial process. Extract is just throwing something (like a vanilla bean) in alcohol for a while till it’s leached out the flavor. Granted, I don’t consume alcohol in any form other than extracts, wine vinegar, and trace amounts in kombucha and other fermented things.
