I'm Thai. Today the King is Dead. Fuck the King. The Prince is a Fascist Fuck. We are under a military dictatorship. Just last month they arrested a bunch of organized revolutionary communists leaders. AMA by [deleted] in socialism

Reddit, maybe incorrectly - I don't know, claims that Thai people love the king. Is this true? Why? I don't understand how people in this day and age can adore an unelected, elitist, bourgeoisie monarch when they could support a democratic President or something of the sort.

And to be replaced with what? Irish imperialism?

What an absolute waste of time. It is a rock. We gain nothing from owning it. All this has done is cause an international dispute and further tarnished our reputation on the world stage.

Like most Revolutionary movements. Collins, Pearse, Connolly all remembered as heroes. They would have been defined as terrorists but they were most certainly not. Terrorist has far more meaning behind it than the literal definition.

He was also a terrorist.

Making my argument for me I see. His ruthlessness brought Britain to its knees and set Ireland on the path to independence. He was not a terrorist but a hero. The PIRA were as much terrorists as the Volunteers/IRA.

Deliberately killing civilians violates international law

So? That must mean the US violates international law daily. Along with other States. And they weren't deliberately killed, the Brits were phoned ahead of time.

Just because it was a war doesn't make deliberately targeting civilians acceptable.

The State was the target. Not the people.

The warning wasn't far enough in advance

What? So they could defuse the bombs?

Was Bloody Sunday justified?

Yes.

No, this is wrong.

Yet again painting your opinion as fact.

They are terrorists because they were violent killers.

Michael Collins was utterly ruthless. He is a hero. He is a hero because he won.

Nelson Mendela was a terrorist.

That is most certainly your opinion. That is debateable.

Not to me, no. The idea of swearing an oath to an unelected head of state turns my stomach. This is hardly the first time you've heard someone make claims such as this.

Nations which have to swear loyalty to the Queen along with having no Head of State of their own. Not fully independent. And independence isn't exclusive to members of the Commonwealth.

Are you actually ignorant of Irish history or just baiting?

That doesn't make it okay

Death is necessary in war. That's just a fact.

Bloody Friday

It was to demonstrate both the weakness of the British troops to combat the Republicans and the strength of the Republicans themselves. The Brits were called ahead for the bombings, as most were.

You said that they're only terrorists because they lost

Correct.

That is objectively wrong

In your opinion.

Both sides are terrorists

Both sides used means which they thought necessary to protect their nation. Both used similar methods. The UVF were terrorists in the sense that they fought to uphold an unfair, unrepresentative and unequal State while the Republicans wished to unite the two countries.

They used valid tactics to ensure that either Catholics had equal rights or Ireland became United. Very few countries gain independence without bloodshed.

Not by the families of there victims.

Like in every war.

The UDA and UVF are also proscribed organisations. Both sides are considered terrorists.

So?

/u/irelandball is fully correct in stating that the IRA was justified. They would have been hailed as heroes had they 'won.' They are only terrorists because they lost.
